"Pan it" (use it up) update

Haven't checked in in a few months, but I'm still working on panning the HABAs.

Cosmetic samples- ended up tossing many that just weren't great on me.

Lotions- still slowly slogging through...
Travel sizes- started working on them in the last month. Panned 1 shampoo, and working on 2 toothpaste and 2 conditioners, and a couple things I put in small containers for my FL trip. Discovered that labels from little travel sizes peel off- so I can relabel and refill on my next trip.

New- an Olay cleansing scrub my neighbor found too harsh and gave me. I never buy that brand, and it's harsh for the face for daily use, but using it as a foot scrub.

Anyone else still panning?

2 down and one to go on the body lotion stash. I have 2 half full containers of SPF 60 and SPF 30 sunscreen from last year that I’m using up before buying new. Threw away a 3rd container that made me gag - the smell was revolting.

Yes, still in pan mode but running out of things to use up! In Mar/Apr/May, I've finished off two old lip balms, some sample-sized bar soaps, homemade calendula oil from last year, and that's about it. Everything else is in larger containers that seem to last forever. Right now I'm trying to use up my oldest sunscreen before it hits its July expiration date.

Right there with you, but I am checking expiration dates now and tossing a lot that is past its best.

I’ve not really been participating in this because I tend not to collect samples (or if I do, I donate them to a local women’s shelter). I am also not experimenting much with products, so I tend to simply have a small amount of back stock of my usual products. We do keep some samples and not-favorite products in our guest bathroom.

But I realized the other day that one of the dozen lip balms I keep tucked away in various places (car, hiking backpack, purse, etc) was from Iowa Cancer Center, which means I acquired it six years ago when I rode RAGBRAI! There isn’t much left in the tube, the cap is cracked and I’m amazed I haven’t lost it already. I moved that to my medicine cabinet so I can finish it off by using it every night.

I have a pretty cream blush that I bought before the pandemic started that is just a little too intense for daytime wear for me, and with no evening occasions, it’s gone completely unused except for a tiny bit I tried one day. It’s perfectly good so I’m reluctant to give it away, but I bought another one at the same time that has become my go-to, so I should probably see if someone else wants it — my sense is it would work great for someone with a slightly darker but still cool skintone.

I need to get more serious about using up body lotions on my feet and I still need to use a couple of sample facial masks . The biggy is bar soaps. I have a bunch but liquid in a pump bottle is so much easier. They are hard for me to use up because they cause skin breakouts. They usually migrate to the guest bathroom but with the pandemic no guests to use them either.

Good job suntiger! I am still enjoying all my Clinique gifts for Christmas and haven't bought any skincare at all, except for a new sunscreen. And only one lipstick this year I think! That's got to be some kind of record hehe!

Using up all my lotions and potions.
Bought a couple of lip balm replacements. And happily going through all my foot creams. Feet are loving it!

I need to do this with all my face lotions. I’m still working on a bottle of skII toner from Costco so you know it’s the “family size”. But I’ve purchase two more different bottles. And I love them all so I don’t want to use them on my feet.

Hubs says “you only have one face.”

I am using up the ridiculous amount of (nearly expired) supplements and vitamins bought the last years. Anyone else stacked up on iodine after watching Chernobyl on HBO...? super challenge!

I am still working through my backlog! I am caught up and actually bought new body wash and lotion. I am currently working through all the random old sunscreens, and all the random BB cream samples. I am also earnestly testing the retinol samples for a winner to buy, having learned that a number of the samples are better products than what I was using. I also used a neighbor’s yearly clean up box from the garbage company to go through nail polishes and pick just a few that are in good shape.

My sunblock is a travel size that I took to FL, need to buy more, but have another expired one in my car I need to toss. Thanks for the reminder!

Synne — I’ve been doing a big vitamin/supplement reckoning and purge too. I have such good intentions with things like omegas and vitamin c but never manage to finish them off before they expire.

Synne: Thanks to pandemic shortages, I ended up with Gummi calcium! It’s really revolting in texture, but I am going to press through and finish them.
