"Pan It" challenge- end January

Trying to be semi productive on this sad snowy day :/ Here's my January update- what I "panned" (used up) and what I will pan. For anyone that didn't see the starting post- I'm trying to use up random beauty product. If they're all wrong I'll toss, but if they're ok I want to use them up.

For January- the evidence of panning 2 eyeshadow samples. Neither were quite right (too cooltoned and plum too light) so won't replace.

For February maybe through March- another eye shadow sample, a pile of blush samples (will prob use as eyeshadows), and a pile of foundation samples. Also a hair product that's fine to shave with, use as washout conditioner, or as moisturizer on ashy legs- but too heavy on my thin hair.
Note to self- do not request batches of samples again!

I also want to finish up all my teas and soups before end of March, as I don't use them in warm weather.
Anyone else panned anything for the month?
ETA- will be back later with computer to respond properly to my OT thread!

Good for you....actually the “pan it” posts got me moving, but in the opposite direction, and in January i gave myself permission to throw out my “leftovers” and mistakes. It was refreshing and now when i open the linen closet it feels cleaner and neater.

The same brand for hair is still sitting under my sink - my daughter gave it a try and switched back to her old favorite ( I tried it a few times and gave up on it for the same reason you did - too heavy for my fine hair ).
My eyeshadow collection got smaller - I decided some experimental colors were not usable on me at all ( dark grey in gunmetal ).
I did used all my body lotion and now doing my daughter' big bottle of slightly heavier one .

Shea butter anything sounds like it’d be too heavy for my hair too—it’s thick in terms of number of strands, but quite fine in that each strand has a small diameter.

On my own attempts—I finally finished and tossed the tube for the persimmon scented body wash that was my only excess beauty product. I’m working on getting through food purchases we never use. I opened a bag of kidney-type beans I’d bought with plans to make retried beans for my son and used them to make a stew that turned out to be the blandest, most boring thing my mouth as ever met. Fortunately, there was also a jar of chutney waiting to be used up. They work together well enough for me to get through a bowl at a time. This will finish up the chutney. Maybe I’ll do the refried beans to use up a bit more of the beans. There are also food mistakes—times we’ve each bought the wrong kind of shelf-stabile milk, and frozen dinner I thought my son would like but he doesn’t want to try. Haven’t figured out what to do with those yet. I’ve given away opened food to homeless people in Tampa and Berlin, but frozen dinners seem like a cruel joke for someone who doesn’t have a stove.

Actually I magpied a jar of spicy chutney-not sure what to do with it!
I like the Shea brand Slimcat, but probably will stick to their skin products from now on-and just for winter!
Some of mine got binned too kkards! At least we all are learning what not to buy again

I used up the teeny lotion bottles I had set aside for travel, and another foundation sample. I have also been tackling the pillow spray surplus: I had a favorite that I used for years that was discontinued and I have been looking for a replacement. I had two samples, two old full size mostly-used-up bottles of an ok-but-not-great replacement, and a new bottle from a new brand. I I used up the minis and one of the full size bottles. I tried the new bottle again to confirm my initial impression it makes me sneeze, and tossed it. I ordered a new bottle from L’Occitane because they are a favorite brand, but have promised myself I won’t crack it open until the last full size bottle is used up. I also tried every usage I could conceive for a Bobbi Brown highlighter brick and then tossed it. I am now working on my Random Old Sunscreen collection; I figured out that if I mix a too-dark French drugstore brand tinted sunscreen with a teeny bit of primer, it’s just fine. Next up after that, the remnants of last year’s Sephora sunscreen mini collection.

Nice work! I like that Shea Moisture brand for soaps and lotions, but that conditioner sounds like it would be too much for my hair too, especially since I never heat-style it.

I’m continuing to work through my little Avène samples, some teeny tinted SPF lip balm samples, and a variety of almost-empty gifted hand creams from holidays past. I’m also playing around with going through mascara by using it as brow pomade. Have yet to find a mascara that doesn’t make my eyes itch when applied to my actual lashes...

@LaPed - same problem with mascara and same thing about using mascara as a brow enhancer . In the past Almay' mascara sorta worked for me - at least couple to four hours. I tried to do just the ends of my lashes - it gives more definition without tiring my eyes as fast as total "done look". If you'll find more suitable solution - post about it, please!

Gotta start on my travel samples too since I don't expect to travel this year. Tried mascara on brows- not good....but I only use black mascara. And hillarious comments to the dog shampoo! Did he miss the Photo of the Actual Dog on the bottle?

I am not using eye makeup for now so made no progress there. I did use up a bunch of cream rinse and hair gel and need to replace. I used up 2 packets of moist makeup remover towels and will not replace them now but try to use up makeup remover samples. I am in the process of using up some lipstick and dry skin cream for feet. Thank you for starting this challenge.

I have also binned Shea Moisture hair products as being too rich for my dry but fine hair! I also figured out that my natural silver hair is far less dry, so I am using teeny bits of the products I usually glop on.

Sounds good Joy! I'm surprised you're wearing lipstick not eye makeup- opposite for me. Is silver hair less dry usually than not, Cat2? I would think it's the opposite, since the texture changes.

I'm trying to force myself to use up all the random flavoured tea I seem to have accumulated (most in gift bags, Christmas presents etc) but I just cannot drink what I don't enjoy. I think I've tortured myself enough and the rest are going in the trash. Which makes me feel bad. I'm doing the use-it or lose-it system with my eyeshadow collection . I've got too much and only wear a really edited-down grouping of makeup now. I've worked my way through all of my travel sizes and samples of random skin/hair/makeup products, and anything that didn't WOW at first use is going straight into the trash too. Also paying attention to expiry dates on a lot of those products too. My travel stash has been accumulating for years and a lot of it is no longer fit for use.

Your first post was an inspiration, and this one is, too! I have to work on my travel-size products. No work travel last year, and I don't expect any this year. Also, we have decided to switch to solid soaps and shampoos, so I have to finish a couple of bath gels and liquid shampoos. Still haven't found a good solid conditioner though

Suntiger, I think a lot of what I thought was change in texture due to the grey was actually damage from the dye, as I had gone grey enough to need a base color applied with a firm hand and highlights. The result was always dry. My grey is a lot silkier and shinier than I expected, and not dry. Post vaccine I am thinking about taking it to the pool a few times to see what happens to the bits that feel too dark, before I start coloring again.

I have been inspired by this Suntiger. I have lingering 1/4 full bottles of sunscreen, body lotion and shampoo that I am using up. My makeup collection and skincare is pretty tight.

We are amidst bathroom renovations so have a bit of chaos which inspires simplifying.

Yay! It's so easy to think, the bottle is low I need to buy more, but those quarter bottles last way longer than we think. Plus if you buy too soon, the new one is more "fun" and the old one sits.

Good work suntiger! I am working through all my hair stuff at the moment - and definitely not buying any new makeup or skin care. I did splurge on a new nail polish, but this was to console myself for the fact that I haven't had a mani or pedi in six months (cry me a river, I know ...)

Now if only I could get DH to pan out the 8 million hot sauces cluttering up the fridge *sigh*

Lol, Helena, this has been the Year of the Hot Sauce in my house too! Trying new ones makes dinner exciting when restaurants aren't an option and I do groceries as infrequently as possible. I may be reaching the point where I have to make a rule about not adding any new ones 'til we've used up the old ones...

Can I recommend Melindas 3x for hot sauce? It's only 250k scoville, but has a nice flavor- not bitter like many.
A nailpolish is in my future too- my Hustle dried up and just tossed it. I didn't see it on Pacificas site so must be discontinued- boo..

suntiger -- Melinda's is my go-to! Usually do the 3x but have tried pretty much all of them at this point (even prefer their sriracha over the traditional rooster brand).
