Pajamas? ETA finds for this jumpsuit & some cooler alternatives

That's what my son said, so I asked him "not in public?" He said "not in private either", so I got a laugh at him.

Anyway, this is my latest attempt at a jumpsuit to wear instead of shorts when it's really hot out. I don't think it's as cool as the stripey pants. The red isn't as bright as I'd usually wear, but that's probably a good thing, because there's so much of it.

But maybe I can save my pennies--yesterday the temp reached 20 (70 F) for the first time in over a week. The next 30 days are forecast to be in the 70s/low 20s. "The coldest winter I ever knew was summer in Berlin"?

ETA: The finds are of this jumpsuit (sorry my pix are so dark) and some others that might be cooler, for if/when the weather gets beastly hot again. I need to choose *one*. Also, here's a dress I love, just for fun, but I'm really not permitted to buy any new dresses until I check some secondhand shops--I expect there will be many summer dresses.

Men! Your post made me laugh out loud, as you look great in this jumpsuit. Cool, comfortable and pulled together. No PJ vibe to me. However, I do understand if you decide against it. Anything my DH has a poison eye for never makes me feel fab. Luckily after many years of marriage he has learned to keep his negative views to himself.

I like the color and the style on you! I think your son may be simply responding to the look of this jumpsuit unstyled and its drapiness. The drapey fabric is part of its appeal to me; I think it has an elegant look. With simple sandals and a piece of jewelry, it will look smashing.

I may politely submit that teenage boys are not always reliable arbiters of style.

It’s not easy to see detail in the photos, but it’s a nice color and I agree the neckline is good. I don’t see pajamas, and I am quite sensitive to the pajama vibe myself. Metallic sandals and jewelry — perhaps a metallic cuff — would finish it simply but effectively.

Kkards, that’s the look I was hoping for—it is a jumpsuit, so easy to sit in, and ride a bike in—but I wanted the first-glance impression to be “dress”.

Missvee, I don’t generally go for V-necks; maybe I should re-evaluate that preference.

Firecracker, I think you are right about the drape being interpreted as “elegant” by this crowd, but differently by him. Another of his comments on the comments was “see—she even admits it’s a jumpsuit! That’s the same as pajamas”. The comment amused me, but seeing as girls at his school wear leggings as pants with crop tops, I’m not surprised.

Looks like a worthy addition to the berry capsule! Has he seen it styled with shoes/bag/accessories? Maybe that would help him visualize it out in the world. Also, a sash or belt for structure (when it's not blazing hot at least)?

I always worry when the things I wear get the thumbs *up* from teens, like, is that really my target demographic? What image am I projecting? (Just as they squirm when adults approve of their sartorial choices: if Mom likes it, can it possibly be cool? )

La Ped, I know just the belt, but don't know if that'd work with the self-belt in back. I like that idea though. I get just what you mean about questioning yourself when teens are a little too enthusiastic about your look, lol.

RL, he's a peach. Ha! Remember when he told me not to get the Vans because I'm "too old"? Goofball. I shouldn't've listened to him, but I've learned and am asking the forum this time.

I do like the way this jumpsuit looks, and I trust the forum's judgement. I'm just a little worried that I felt a little warm in it sitting on the balcony. It's mostly viscose, so I've ordered some options in classic cool fabrics. They're in the original post now. None of the others have the nice cap sleeves of the red one. I've also added the find for this one, so you can see the details better.

I think, you know, that young people (by which I probably mean teenagers in this case) see anyone over about 40 as impossibly old. And even some much younger than that as old. What’s cool and what’s not has perhaps a very short turnaround time like a few years. I have this memory of being in a youth group when I was 16 and the ( in retrospect very attractive) male leader asked us what we thought middle aged was and we all said 40! He looked slightly wounded and said oh no, surely older than 40! His sons were about 11 and 9 at the time so 40 could have easily been his age
And even as a younger person than I am now I felt people were quite old that were maybe only 15 years older than me?
I love the colour of the jumpsuit in the better lit pic, really suits you.

Jenni, good point about the (fashion) cycles they’ve gone through. I recall that after I cut myself very deeply, the only neighbor home drove me to the ER. She had been in the shower, so she answered the door in a towel, then threw on clothes with no underwear. When a dad in the neighborhood heard the last bits, he chuckled and said that all the boys were going to hurt themselves. It was years before I understood that she was thin and quite good-looking, glamorous for my parents’ set. She had just married the widower across the street, so to my mind she was “Leslie (and Matt, Jon, and Jenny)’s mom” even though she was 29 & Leslie & I were 15. In my mind, she was just in a different category from us, one that didn’t involve looking good.
