Packing for Spain (Lots of pics!)

Hi!

So I'm trying to come up with a good mix and match wardrobe for Spain. Here is what I came up with:

Black, red, and denim skinnies (the red skinnies are reversible - one side red, one side patterned)
Red blazer
3 graphic tees
2 flats, 1 loafer, 1 heeled oxford, 1 wellies
small cross body
4 pullover sweaters/sweatshirts (striped, gray, red, and white with pink heart)
white, blue, and denim button-downs
tanks tops for layering/warmth
polka dot blouse
red/pink stripped sweater
Not stylish black fleese jacket

So here are some pics of the fashion show to try and figure this out. Some stuff didn't make the final cut. All feedback is welcome!! (Especially on the shoes. I'm very concerned with my feet being uncomfortable with all the walking we'll likely do.)

10 days. We rented apartments in Barcelona and Madrid, so I'll have access to a washer and dryer too on part of the trip.

I like what you have shown, but it seems like too much clothes. How big is your suitcase? Do you need all those sweaters? I should think two might be enough.

I may leave out the pink and red striped sweater. It's not good for layering. The others are nice and thin.

I am not sure about wellies. Sure they are waterproof but aren't they hard to walk in for the whole day?
How comfortable are heeled oxfords for you? How long you can really walk in them - up and down on the cobblestones? Are they just a going out option?
All in all my advice is:take the MOST comfortable shoes you can walk in for 12+ hours without killing your feet and make sure at least one pair is waterproof!

I'd leave the red striped sweater and take a couple pair of good walking shoes with structure to support your feet on all those cobblestones. The blue flats don't look sturdy enough. In madrid, be sure to see the changing of the guard at the Palacio Real. It was once a month I thnk several years ago but is now every Wednesday:
"Changing of the Guard - For a special treat, visitors can now witness the ceremonial changing of the guard every Wednesday afternoon. A spectacle of 12 guards and 6 horses, change guard from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in a ceremony filled with pomp and pageantry"
It was much more elaborate than Buckingham Palace's and involved horse pulled cassions.
Don't miss the art galleries. We drug our teen sons there but they still talk about the art. One went back on his own to see more.

Great outfits - love #7. Do you have any shoes you could walk all day in?
Could you swap a pair of the jeans for a dressier pant or skirt?

I need to figure out something dressier. I have a long black skirt I could bring and some dresses, but I'm not sure how dressy to go. I think someone said dinner is usually dressy?

This looks like a great start to your travel capsule. How exciting that you get to see Spain! I really like #7, especially!

A couple of questions: When, exactly, is the trip to begin? Would you need a trench or a rainproof coat? If it is possibly going to be wet, you might be uncomfortable in the fleece.

Footwear: for me, the ballet flats would be completely unworkable -- but then, I can't wear ballet flats anyway, so take that with a grain of salt. If you can typically wear those, you might be all right. But you'll be on cobblestones and rougher pavement and perhaps on hills -- you might need more supportive shoes. I have the same reservations that Sveta has about the wellies.

Ditto Caro on a dressier option. If you are going to be going in churches and such, you may even want to be wearing a modest dress or skirt (long enough and arm/ shoulder covering).

I'm echoing Caro and Suz on re-thinking footwear and adding a skirt or a dress. I travel with a pair of really comfortable leather walking shoes/shooties/boots (depending on the time of year and location) that I can waterproof and wear every day for at least 8 hours of non-top walking on cobblestones. I also like to take a pair of walking sandals if the weather is warm and I'm near a beach, or a pair of casual sneakers if I'm going to be in the countryside. Then I'd toss in a pair of simple, dressier flats for restaurants and evenings. I've never taken heels or wellies on any of my trips.

Sensible walking shoes...

Carrie, looks like a good start! I especially like your blazer options. Questions.....will the temps require a coat? Do you own any scarves? You could accessorise and add a bit of contrast and colour.

The shoes are my biggest concern when I know I'll be walking all day. Flats do me ok for a day at the mall but would kill my feet on city streets all day.

Congrats on your trip. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to take.
