I was just in Oahu at the end of April! And it was so beautiful. I basically wore short, comfy dresses every day, with comfy gladiators. There were one or two days that I wore shorts and a top because of activities (hiking, etc.) that warranted it. I also brought a light sweater for the airplanes and for when the beaches got breezy at night. But it was all mix-and-match to work together, and all worked with the same shoes (gladiators, and flip-flops for the beach).
I agree about bringing a second bathing suit. Everyone in my party switched suits each time while the other one was drying.
The pic is kind of a bad example because the wind was blowing my breezy shirt, and my eyes are closed. LOL. BUT you can see the elements I brought with me: versatile and flattering denim shorts, cute shirt that worked with black, light black sweater, and my gladiators. Basically I made a tropical travel capsule. =o) Oh yeah, and that cute little kid is my son, who quite liked Hawaii, but mostly loved seeing the friends we went to visit. =o)
