Taking my youngest back to college, and then DH and I are spending a few days in an upscale B&B in a peaceful setting on a lake. Activities will include: road tripping; moving daughter in; taking her & her roommates out to dinner or lunch; probably a little shopping; dining out; hiking; swimming; boating; chilling out on a private deck, watching the sunset over the lake... ahhhh.... Weather: expected to be hot during the day, chilly at night (and probably buggy).
This is our only vacation this summer. I booked the trip months ago, thinking that it would be a nice getaway for what has been an absolutely brutal summer, between new job stress, and DH's stress handling his parents' estate issues, for which we are finally in the home stretch. DH and I desperately need this getaway. That said, I'm pretty sick and tired of packing and traveling and living out of luggage! *sigh*
For this trip, we'll be going by car so I have leisure to over-pack all I want. However, believe it or not, I still think I can get it ALL of this into my international-sized carry on, plus an extra tote to accommodate extra shoes and bulkier items including a sweatshirt!
I am going to pack similar to how i packed for my last business trip, removing the business casual items and replacing with some gear for hanging out on the lake:
Bottoms
- VC striped tube skirt
- VC black ruched tube skirt
- baggiest, most distressed BF jeans, to be worn rolled
- quick-dry REI capris (qualify as "gear")
* will wear the skirts for the drive, as I find them super comfortable as well as cool in the heat
Tops
- Assortment of J crew V-neck tee shirts
- One dressy blouse
Toppers
- Jean jacket
- Sweatshirt - warmest, roomiest one, for chilly evenings.
- black cardigan - rolls up small and fits in my handbag
Dresses
- Navy AT maxi
- waist-surrendering black knit dress
*both dresses will work for day, or for night/dining out, with jean jacket over
Shoes
- black cage wedge heels
- Jcrew metallic thongs
- Naot "birk-inspired" flats
- Rugged water sandals for hiking/wading
Swim stuff
- swimsuit
- cover-up (white hooded long sleeve - looks good also over the REI capris)
Handbags
- cognac Coach Phoebe bag... for wearing around town.
- REI "gear" cross body bag... for wearing around the lake.
*I'm feeling the cognac bag vs the pink right now, as we are transitioning into fall it looks more "right" to my eye
Am I missing anything?
