I've been a bit absent lately, and I won't even begin to tell you how crazy life has been the last couple of weeks. One of the reasons... Planning and thinking about packing (and trying to get two weeks worth of work done in one.... )for a completely unplanned trip to Scotland. My great aunt passed away, so I'm taking DD10 and heading over for her funeral. Not sad or unexpected, she was 102, but I knew her well as she lived with my grandmother, so I want to say goodbye. And connect with whatever family may also be there.
So.... I'm posting because I don't think I've ever been as happy with a packing capsule as this one! I struggle with packing, and always take too much. I think one of the reasons is my variety in silhouettes, so mixing and matching doesn't work as well as it might. With this, I took Angie's epxcellent advice and packed from the footwear up.
What I'm packing for... The funeral, obviously - service plus lunch. A day in Edinburgh, possibly downtown, possibly walking the hills. A half day in Edinburgh when we first arrive, no clue what we'll be up for. A day on the west coast, definitely mucking about with sheep and walking the hills and beach, no matter the weather. Two half days travelling between the two locations. Time hanging out with family. And a girls night in with my cousin :).
i want to be comfortable, cozy (it's Scotland after all!) look good, yet also need to be practical. So here it is!
Travelling: merino tee, lulu pants and hoodie. I know, won't win any fashion awards, but it's overnight, and comfort rules so I can sleep. Will wear real clothes on the way home :). And I might rethink this. Just don't want to get anything dirty that I may want in the first few days.
Funeral: motto skirted leggings, red tunic top, black cardigan, booties
Hanging out, travelling, sight seeing: jeans, leggings, black Sloan leggings, with Emerson fry sweater, joie sweater, tunic length tees. Everything mixes and matches.
Hiking and hanging out: tee, hoodie, Lulus. Also MEC hiking pants.
Outerwear: cobalt MK trench, black thin down jacket, tourquoise rain she'll, rain pants.
Footwear: black booties, black combat style boots, hiking shoes.
And tying it all together with a few scarves.
This is probably still too much, but it's so much less too much than is normal for me, esp on this type of trip. What are your thoughts?
