Oversized...or just too big? - YouLookFab Forum

I ordered this grey sweater (pics 3-5) as part of my grey sweater search. It is online only so I wasn't able to try on in the store. I've been liking things more loose than fitted lately so I bought a medium. I like it a lot, but I'm not sure if I should exchange for a small. What is the difference between the right kind of oversized and just too big?!

Also, how is the color? I'm including shots of the keeper grey sweater to compare. (Pics one and two). Is the darker color better for me or is this shade good too? There is a lilac shade of the sweater in question that I could exchange the grey medium for if it isn't that great.

Clarifying cause I got the pics out of logical order...the first two are of the keeper sweater. Pics 3-5 is the sweater in question for size and color.

I think the sweater fit is modern. For me grey is less gloomy than black in winter and almost as versatile, so 2 grey sweaters is not too many.

I actually really like the fit. Oversized=yes. too big=no.

I think they're both lovely. The new lighter gray one looks intentionally oversized, to me. It might also be fine a size smaller, but I'd keep it. It's such a nice color, too. Would you mind sharing where they're from? I'm also on a gray sweater quest.

Greyscale...of course you like grey! The darker one is Ann Taylor. Really doesn't look like much online...I looked right past it until I saw the grey one in the store. Here it is. I think it isn't as short as it looks on the model:

The one that was in question is from Talbots and on sale now. The color they show it in is so yuck it is easy to look right past it too. It is online only.

Both sweaters, are great, but I especially like the loose fit and notches in the side of #2. I have at least 4 grey sweaters, and I wear them all!

Comparing the first sweater and the second; the FIRST one is more elegant, has more gravitas and the color is better! Hmmm. Why not try the second one in the lavender. It will mix wonderfully with grey. I feel like it's not a deep enough grey for your strong hair color.

Peri, I had to read everyone's comments to educate myself. I am new to your second sweater, but I see it's getting the forum's approval. I'm worried that I have done oversized in the wrong way. That's a pretty fashion forward sweater for Talbots: good score! I love the first sweater too. The scarf and your phone are great accent colors on you.

I think the darker one looks great with vivid colors like the scarf you have on--perfect. The lighter one would be wonderful with cool colors like white and pastels, so having both is versatile!

That looks a lot like a j crew sweater I tried on today (only that one really was too big for me since they only had a size larger than my normal; am considering ordering a smaller size though)! I think the fit looks good, the arms fit right so you can tell its deliberately oversized.

I will be the spanner here and say while I like the easiness of # 2, it is rather thin and shapeless and in the light gray it reads very casual, almost like loungewear, or a longlseeved loose T, to me.. So it would depend on your purposes.

You've done the fluid fit perfectly! Both are great looks for you, although I must say I'm intrigued by the idea of lavender. You look fab in sophisticated pastels.
