Oversized Chain Link Necklaces

I keep seeing oversized chain style necklaces in plastic, wood, etc. I'm rather enamored of them, and seeing one on this stylish older lady shows why:

What a great style this lady has ! I also am really liking them...but not in shiny metal. I like the resin ones and oxidized ones that I have seen.

I have one from Jcrew very similar to the one in pic 1. ( The one in pic 1 is also from Jcrew and on sale for $ 20 right now. ) I also like ones that are part chain and part resin, as in #2.

I love these. I have this white one in my asos basket, my finger keeps hovering over the trigger http://m.asos.com/mt/www.asos......id=2135872 I've been on the hunt for a white bead necklace over the last 2 summers I'm thinking this may be a trendy substitute? X

That is a fantastic shot! I have a gorgeous one already similar to the first one posted by Isabel thanks to the generosity of Bella! I also ordered a wooden one but it hasn't come yet. I loved the ones in the Talbot's catalog, but they were all sold out by the time I got the catalog.

Ooops seems like they are back but on backorder. I might have to rethink

Ooooo. I like the plastic/resin ones. They look like they would be lightweight and smooth on the neck. I like the simplicity of wearing one large bold necklace.

These look like a lot of fun and I like the lightweight idea. I get neck strain by the end of work with just a pendant on a chain, so this might be a nice statement alternative. . .

I got a hammered gold one at the consignment store not long ago and I love it! I also have a resin one from F21 from a copuole of seasons ago. I think it's a great look!

I like the big chains, but I don't think I could go *too* big. Large scale w/o adding bulk to the chest area would be nice.

These are great! I have a black one (from Target, maybe 3 years ago, made out of beads) and an off-white one (from J. Crew outlet, metal), and I wear them quite a bit.

How funny - my mom has a necklace like that goldtone one, and I know that she's had it for at least 25 years. I guess everything does come back into fashion eventually.

I love the Advanced Style blog! I had forgotten all about it. The women on there are just so amazingly stylish.

I'm not so sure about the big chain links on me, but I did see one that was actually knitted, rather than a hard material, so it was a sort of scarf/necklace hybrid. Wish I could remember where I saw that...

I love the avant garde ladies on Advanced Style.

I could see this look working as a great way to enliven an over-saturated at retail item like a dolman top. Personally, I have quite a few of them from the past year that just aren't looking fresh anymore because there are so many of them out there.

Same thing is happening with stripes, at least to my eye.

@kate, was planning to get krylon paints too, for a diy in neon or pulsating red. too trendy for me to spend more than a few dollars. i think some plastic garden chain spray-painted would be fab!

When I was in JCrew yesterday, I spied some bright-colored chain-link necklaces there. Not as oversized but interesting, too. I don't see them online but they were in bright colors - like intense blue (almost turquoise), yellow etc.
