Well, forget the travel capsule concept for us.
OK, after 3 cancellations the 4th time the booking worked out, and we all went on the Disney cruise. Warning signs, but we, the oldest, seemed at most risk. Vaxxed, boosted, and double masked in airports.
Weather warm and humid In Florida and Caribbean. I stayed covered up—I’ve had enough sun damage, thanks.
Mr. Maven and I had to cancel out of summer trip because of his illness. I had bought some new things for the summer mountain trip, mostly not worn, and bought even more for cruise. He has so many gadgets to carry he likes to take big suitcases, so no need to be frugal in packing.
Nevertheless . . .
Not Worn
2 new Lands End swim suits. I’ve worn them out in our spa, so okay. Never got around to pool or beach.
Blue striped JC tee dress to wear over swimsuits. Worn once last summer, got it out one day, left it in cabin.
Silk JC flowing pants bought for last summer. Worn half day on trip. Lovely but this was a kids’ Mickey trip, not hanging around looking fabulous trip.
Black lace Halogen midi-skirt—have had for a while. Planned to wear it to fancy restaurant, Palo’s. We were cancelled by mistake. We dropped by at lunch and they said come on in, although Mr. Maven had to go change into long pants. I was wearing my casual ship clothes.
Worn
Pair of Paige jeans, turtleneck, black v-neck sweater and red Barbour jacket. Worn to airport, plane to and from home, and jeans on disembarkation.
Chico’s white jeans: worn the most.
BR beige linen pull on cropped pants. Worn a lot.
3 sun resistant tops. Land’s End: 1 tee, 1 ¼ zipper rashgard; LL Bean 1 shirt. Yes, wore each a few times.
New Nic + Zoe cotton sweater. Worn several times. No, it wasn’t too hot. Wore with rhodolite pendant bought in Buenos Aires 15+ years ago. Hardly ever wear it.
Old N+Z tank.
2 yr-old Paige off white long sleeveV neck tee.
Lightweight LL Bean knit jacket worn a lot since bought in fall. ’21.
4 pair of shoes: SAS walking shoes, Ecco woven slipons, Bionica sandals, Easy Spirit slides. No new footwear, all comfortable. In heat, humidity, drinking alcohol, and eating saltier food than normal, feet swelled up. Got blister from Eccos, surprised because they otherwise are comfortable, and blister from ankle strap on Bionica that I have had for several years and are comfortable. I haven't had a blister in ages, so was surprised by the arrivals and didn't pay attention.
Eric Javits hat, old but in good shape.
Also socks, nightgowns and underwear. All ok.
Took makeup, never wore it. Did wear lots of sunscreen though.
Because of Covid surge, I cancelled a haircut and pedicure days before we left. Did own pedicure. Scraggly hair, but then, except for the girls who got princess makeovers, this wasn’t a glamorous cruise. Heat and humidity did me in.
Bought new on cruise: Mickey tee shirt. Told girls it was my “statement tee” and they laughed.
Gifted:
Two long fabulously soft luxurious Disney robes as a thank you for providing funds. And full length. I needed a new robe but all I could find were knee length. Love these.
3 triangle pirate scarves, polyester but will be great to wear on neck for summer gardening.
Covid haunted our trip. After the 4 day cruise we spent 3 days in a rented house in Orlando so kids could go to parks.
It was a mistake to stay in a house together. Disney was super careful, but not people visiting Florida. Oldest kid and youngest have mild Covid, probably from the parks, and 2 adults with symptoms waiting for test results. Everyone else ok, including us. Today is day 10 since last exposure, so the two of us seem to have made it through. We do have at-home antigen tests, but since they often are false-negative, we held onto them for if/when we do have symptoms. Every time we feel a bit off we run and take our temperature.
Conclusion:
We weren't sure we'd go until almost the last minute. Most of us kept close to home beforehand. Kids had a fabulous time. Wonderful photos to enjoy. Adults for the most part enjoyed the trip. Of the 5 family groups, 2 hadn’t been on a cruise before, one had been on one cruise.
Great to see family we haven’t seen for 2 years, including the new baby.
The fancy pants, skirt, and dress didn’t take up much room, but I wish I’d brought another pair of casual pull-on pants and another lightweight jacket. Lots of cold air conditioning everywhere, and lots of sun.
I didn’t need to buy so many tops. I could have substituted other items I own. I’ll wear the new items next summer.
I didn't need to buy any new clothes for this trip. Still there hasn't been a good reason to shop much in the last couple of years. (Not saying I didn't buy a lot of stuff.)

1. N+Z top, LL bean Jacket
2 LE Sun resistant rash guard as top
3. Silk pants. Kept sliding down, afraid I'd trip on the hem.
4. White jeans, LL Bean top.
5 Son and me in next summer's favorite tee.
6. The LE sun top
7. Princess hair clip. This girl has fabulous auburn hair, wasn't too comfortable in princess bun, but I think she had a great time. Another girl decided she'd rather go back to Kid's Club than get a makeover.
8. Beautiful happy baby, me in Paige top and jeans. Gorgeous hair and eyelashes, happy disposition.
9. J Crew dress. Now I think, "No wonder I didn't wear it."My relationship with dresses has changed during the Pandemic.
