Overalls?

Looking for some fashion advice! My wife recently purchased me a pair of denim overalls for me to wear, I'm a guy in my 30s and haven't really worn them before. I've thought about wearing them out with her when we go to dinner or a friend's house but can't bring myself to wear them. I know it will make her happy, but not sure if they will look awkward?

Perhaps I am behind the fashion times, but overalls on a man strike me as work-wear for men. Women have worn them as a fashion look, but I haven't seen men do so. I cannot think of an event that would be casual enough for a man to wear overalls and not look costumey.

Overalls are very casual. But you could try dressing them up by wearing a classic button-front shirt and/or a blazer. Plus loafers or oxfords.

Ask your wife what her intentions are for you wearing them.
When my husband ( then boyfriend) and I were young he wore overalls frequently to casual events.
He recently requested a pair but specifically for work around the house attire

Honestly, I think they are a bit weird for a guy unless for work. Asking your wife to style them for you maybe best.

I thought they were only worn by mechanics, tradies and women who live in Glebe.

She wants me to change up the rotation from just jeans and a tshirt, I'm going to wear them tonight to her friends house with a white button down under. Hopefully I don't get too may odd looks!

If she wants you to change things up from jeans and a tee, get chinos or cargo shorts in stone or bone and a short sleeved and collared button down or a Hawaiian shirt . The shirt can double as a jacket over a tee. You can add deck shoes or sneakers or sandals.
Overalls are very casual and conjure up thoughts of field workers or milking cows in the barn.

My friend’s new partner works in a very creative field and is very stylish in youthful, slightly arty way (he’s actually 50 so it’s not a matter of being young - I just don’t have a better word coming to mind than youthful to describe his style…). He wore overalls to a party at my place recently and everyone loved them. Nobody in our urban milieu was confused that he might be a farmer. I do think it’s a matter of personal comfort though. How did it go?

Everyone loved them! I was asked where they were from, but really positive reactions from everyone. The overalls were a definite conversation starter. There's a 50 / 50 split in the yay vs nay voting so still a polarizing fashion choice it seems.

As an update to this, I've since gotten 3 more pairs of overalls and wear them a few times per week, as I'm able to wear them also to the office I work in. Most people just ask me where I got them from and say they like how they look.
