Overalls — how roomy? - YouLookFab Forum

After trying and returning an off-white boilersuit a couple months ago, I’ve had utility looks on my mind and decided to try these off-white short-all’s. I’m perpetually between sizes so I ordered both of my potential sizes and I honestly don’t know which one is better! I’m afraid a year of pandemic life has really skewed my sense of fit...

The larger size (1/2) has a lot of extra room in the torso and the legs are a little roomier too. More apparent in the side view. The smaller size (3/4) is a little more body-skimming but not tight. Plenty of room for this boxy tee. I kind of love the hanging-off-the-shoulders vibe of the sized-up one. Some reviews say the fabric relaxes and stretches with wear. I was hoping photos would show an obvious winner, but they’re almost indistinguishable. Maybe I size up even further to get the full-on slouchy waif vibe? Curious if anyone else is excited about overalls this year, and where you think they should fall on the tailored/fluid/oversized spectrum.

Larger. Like your idea of really sizing up. Crotch point low like the model. Need to balance where the legs end up tho, to avoid a little rascals situation

I prefer the smaller size, but keep in mind that's my bias. It also keeps one from wondering if you borrowed them from someone bigger. But I also don't like overalls/shortalls that are tight. Super slouchy looks IMHO are best for those who are super tall.

bj1111 -- that's a good point! I need to play with the shoulder straps. I think lower is the way to go regardless of which size I keep. These have a lot of adjustability.

DonnaF -- there are a lot of super-fitted overall looks out there (*so* not me), and a lot of super-slouchy (tempting!). Go too far in either direction and you lose the comfort/practicality... I think overalls are just tricky.

I ordered overall shorts a few days ago, in two sizes. I wore overalls as a young person. Maybe I’m delusional in thinking I can wear them? I’m not young and I’m not slender either.

Anyway, looser is better.

I prefer the larger too, but would hesitate to order another size up - won't the straps slide of your shoulders then? I like Suz's suggestion to play with the clasps a bit.

I like the larger ones as well! And yes i have been thinking about overalls recently too! (Although I think that they’ll be a very tricky fit on me... but I am tempted.)

Well I almost always vote for roomier. If I thought you would wear these with a blazer I’d say the smaller size, but I think your more limo to wear a sweater under the bib, which would work best with the roomier pair.

Love these on you, #1 seems the right fit, roomy but not so large to be annoying to wear. Having straps that slide down would bother me with the very oversized style.

Nice! I would see if the smaller size bags out a bit, but I don’t think you can go wrong with the larger size as they are meant to be really casual.

I just loved overalls and wore them all-the-time in uni. Had faded and dark wash jean, and green corduroy versions. ‘Painter pants’ were popular at the time - utility/grunge/Carhart chic - worn with plaid shirts and those ubiquitous ‘yellow’ work boots.

I also like them roomier, but feel the length is not quite right. Like they need to be shorter or longer. What do you think?

I like the roomier fit here, but if they are no-stretch denim, I'm guessing they will stretch quite a bit. If you lengthen the straps all the way, does the smaller pair give you a little bit of a lower crotch point? If so, I'd keep the smaller pair. Otherwise, go with the larger ones and figure they will get even a bit larger with wearing.

This is so helpful, thanks everybody! I haven't actually decided whether I'll keep these, as I have some other overalls OTW to compare them with and will keep the ones I like best. But now I have a better idea of what I'm looking for fit-wise.

Re: inseam, I was hoping I'd be able to cuff the hems on these, but the seams are a bit bulky for that.

The larger size definitely works better for a dropped look with the shoulder straps extended. In the smaller size, the waistband gets a little "stuck" on my hips. Definitely leaning toward roomier.
