Outfit trials with NO SCARVES

Dear Fabbers,
Today, I had an outfit session. I made a little challenge for myself - NO SCARVES. I tried to style a dark navy dress with different accessories and shoes. I also tried an outfit with a striped cotton top and white trousers and outfits with two silk blouses and cream trousers. The common denominator is no scarves, no black and less structure than I would normally feel comfortable with. I also pulled out a few of my large necklaces which get no or very little wear (scarves take usually over).
I am curious what you guys think.

No. 1 - 4 is a dark navy cotton dress from an Italian brand Alpha Studio. It is made of a thicker jersey and the sleeves and a part of the skirt are woven. I think it is a perfect background for different accessories. Here, I wear it with a large sea shell necklace, which also have small pearls and colourful tussles. I wear navy and beige espadrilles and a creamy metallic clutch. Then, I changed the espadrilles for patent leather red Swedish clogs and a red bag. These are my version of boho

No 5-7 is the same dress, here with a blush and cream large glass necklace, a grey bag and silver metallic round toe pumps. This I could wear to work.

No 8-10 is the dress with a wooden necklace, a small grey bag and a pair of cream metallic sneakers. Sort of casual meets boho, or I don’t know actually what it is ....

No 11 - 14 — navy and white striped cotton top with cropped white trousers and silver loafers, large white bag and two different necklaces. This outfit is very unusual for me - horizontal stripes is new to me, I just bought this top to wear under a navy blazer. Also I don’t know how to accessorize it without a scarf... I think it is not very flattering on me. What do you guys think?

No 15-19 — cream wide legged trousers with silk tops and necklaces. Again, no scarves. In the last picture I added a cream cardigan - almost never worn because I usually reach for a blazer.

2 and 4! Great outfits! So strong visually but also with a kind of humor. I like the striped top very much on you and am wondering why you think it's unflattering? Maybe a non metallic shoe with the gold link necklace?

You look so pretty in these pictures, I like your summer makeup.

It's funny to me that "no scarves" is a challenge, because I have yet to work them in when it isn't cold. But of course you wear scarves very well. I'm glad to see you doing this challenge, because I was stunned the first time you posted an outfit that stepped away from your norm a bit. You have a pretty face and a nice figure. No need to obscure that or hide these cool necklaces under a big scarf! Your smile, as seen in 2 & 3, and your sparkly laughing eyes as seen in 4 are the absolute best accessories.

That's a great dress. My favorite here is the red shoes and purse, but how would the navy espadrilles and grey bag work together?

You look great in the simple pants & shirt, sans jacket or scarf. I think a simple necklace is best here. Are those seashells in #11? That would be a nice nod to the nautical feel of the shirt.

ETA, ohh, I like the simple beads in the last set! The final photo is so polished--you glow!

When I first read your title, I thought 'NOOOOOO!' But then I opened up the photos. WOWZAA! I think #1-2-3'is my favourite outfit ever! Incredible neckpiece with a great dress, and fabulous footwear. The variations are both good - but the first is my favourite.

Then MORE fabulous combinations. The mariner T with white trousers IS flattering. You could don a navy blazer when the weather gets cooler, but the outfit totally works 'as is'. The white bag is TDF. I can't pick a favourite necklace. Maybe the last one by a smidge?

And it continues! You certainly know how to style your whites and have nailed summer dressing. With your gift for accessorizing, I'm not even missing your signiture scarves.

Overall these read modern and current and fashionably cool and effortless. I can’t stand so much fabulosity. More scarfless dressing please.

Isabel, thank you very much for the kind comments. I am glad you think there is a kind of humor in the outfits, I am not very “serious” dresser and I am glad it shows. I am hesitant about wearing the striped top without a blazer because it feels like it makes me look wider. Or to put it accurately, it is not slimming. But it is also a matter of habit, I normally never wear t-shirts with trousers without a jacket or blazer. I wear more structured shirts, blouses or tunics.

FashIntern thank you, you are so kind. I tried the navy espadrilles with the grey bag, but I thought the bag was too “heavy” with the very casual summery espadrilles. The colours worked, but I didn’t like the styles together, IYKWIM. The fringed necklace I wear with the striped top is from Mango last year, there are some flowers on it and some beads and some masks, I don’t know which material it is supposed to be. Maybe I could try the sea shell necklace in the first outfit with the striped top, I have not tried that. What do you think?

Katerina - as usual, such sophisticated styling!

I’m a huge fan of the red clogs - maybe style them with the mariner tee and white pants? I would also love to see the tee with a pair of straight or wide leg trousers...I think the horizontal stripes are not widening on you because they are so narrow -

The cream trousers are so lovely.

Like you, I set my scarves aside during the hot and humid summers. I miss wearing them, but I know they will feel fresh when the weather cools. YLF!

WOW! First I almost had a heart attack when I saw the title of the post, then I almost fell off my chair at the fabulous pictures!

I’ve always loved your scarves and you wear them so well. These looks are also amazing. They feel a little.... softer? warmer? More open? I can’t put my finger on it, but it feels like a different side of your personality coming through.

I'm sorry I had to sit down for a little while to recover when I read the title of your post .l thought an outfit without a scarf is just not you but then I saw what you had done with your fabulous necklaces and it is very you.The necklaces are your summer scarf equivalent.l love the big shell one with your co ordinating lipstick and funky black dress.I am also taken with your last run of pictures,the cobalt and neutral looks are lovely.Bravo for trying something different.

ChrisM, thank you very much. The red clogs are made by small local company here in the very south of Sweden. They sell them in a little shop, often as souvenirs, and there are vary many colours and finishes. I have currently three pairs - these red ones, a black patent leather pair and a gold pair. I asked the manager if I could get the gold pair with black painted wood - they normally make them only with natural wood, and the guy made them for me. It was very sweet of him. Thank you for the idea to wear the clogs with the striped tee, it will be great! Strait or wide leg will be good with the tee, I have a pair of navy wide legs too, I try that combination as well. Scarves are awesome aren’t they? I understand you miss them now. As soon as the weather will cool a little, I will wear mine again. But I would like to achieve more variety and wear aoutfits without scarves more often this is a great exercise for that.

Gretchen, you crack me up! Thank you very much. I remember your gorgeous scarves, love them and your style. Interesting how these outfits can be perceived. I think you have a great point there, because I do feel a bit more vulnerable, or less “armored” in these outfits.

I suppose the necklaces function a bit as a scarf - they draw attention to the face, fill out the necklines and can change the character of the outfit. I am glad you like the shell necklace outfit. It is definitely stylewise a bit of a stretch, but I like it too. The last set of outfits feel to me more like me. A bit more dressy and quite polished. Glad you like those too.

I love all these outfits but my particular favorites are 1-3 with the beautiful navy dress and lovely necklace and every single outfit with the cream trousers. The red clogs are wonderful and I agree that they'd look great with the breton top. You've inspired me to hunt for red clogs (a bit difficult to find in the US unfortunately, )

I’m not reading other comments until after I finish mine . First set: the small bag in the last outfit looks too small in scale for you . Maybe I’m used to seeing you with much larger bags though . Love the funky boho necklace in the first photos!

Second set - love this ! It is absolutely flattering !

Third set - I feel awkward mentioning this but the pants look like they are pulling too much across the front near the crotch point . Quite noticeable with shorter tops like this

Lisa,thank you very much and thank you for mentioning the cream pants. I will look if it is possible to alter them - if it would be enough fabric to let them out a bit in the seam in the back, if not - they will be designated to longer tops. They are actually not uncomfortable because there is some stretch in the fabric. It is a 100% polyester, very inexpensive pair, so I would even not be too sad to let it go. I have other light pants that can do the job instead

ACK - came back to edit and fix that message up - and see I'm too late. This is the problem with writing on a phone : you can't see when you've been typing for ages, nor can you see when what you wrote is too abrupt. I apologize for not finishing my thoughts. Plus I was rushing as I was at work and shouldn't' have been on my phone at all - LOL. I loved how you've styled these outfits without scarves, and find it really shows off more of your face, neck etc - which is great! I came back to add that the small scale of the bag would be totally fine as a cross body, but as a handbag, it just struck me as way too small in scale somehow. And re the pants - well, I should have worded it a bit differently: my eye goes straight to that point on the pants because it's at eyelevel in the photos. I'm also hyper-sensitive to that part of the body and how it looks in clothes. I don't know - maybe just me. You are such a beautifully classic dresser that I'm sure it's just the photos.

These outfits so look very you despite the lack of scarves - which just goes to show how signature your style is. The Cobalt top with those cream we legged trousers is my favorite - what stunning pants! And I love the cardigan on you!

Oh, please Lisa, do not worry about this. You are very kind and honest and I really appreciate and respect you. It is also very thoughtful of you to come back with more comments.
I agree with you totally on the small bag - I wear it usually as a crossbody. Here, the strap would interfere with the chunky longer necklace, so I wore on my arm/hand instead, which is not great. I could actually not find the perfect bag to the wooden necklace - ideally the bag should work with the colours, be a bit rounded, bigger and not too dressy and structured, Currently I don’t think I own any such bag. I will keep that in mind on my next thrifting expeditions.
As for the pants - I can see what you see when I look at the pictures. I think it looks worse with the cobalt blouse, as I wear flats and I pulled up the trousers higher to make them a bit shorter, which looks like they would be riding up. But overall, they pull too much.

The crotch on the pants can be fixed - I do it frequently. It's not anything to do with needing more fabric available to be added. Counter-intuitively, the opposite.

Roxanna, thank you very much for the kind comments. Your feedback is valuable to me. I am glad you like the cardigan. I wear blazers so much that I sort of “ignore” knitted garments. I would like to wear more knits, but I find many difficult to pull of. I crave structure and knits are most often less structured and less architectural. So I try to buy knits which are designed more like blazers or coats or which have some more avant-garde architectural vibe. This cream cardi is as soft as I would go and a style departure for me. But I am glad as it will broaden my choices. You wear knits extremely well and I often admire your luxurious pieces. Very inspiring.

Gorgeous Katerina! I have not read everyone's comments in full, but I like this style direction! You have a stunning collection of necklaces, too! I always think your make up and lips in particular look immaculate! Please may I ask what lipstick you use and if it stays on?

I love the dress in one, I am wondering how it will look as a column of colour with darker shoes, and I love the way your sunglasses elongate you!

I especially love the first two shorter necklaces on you (the shell and the glass) with everything! Wow statement necklaces work as well as your scarves on you! I like the red accessories with the dress. The striped top with the gold necklace is also fantastic. Blue top and glass necklace also gorgeous. The cream top too. The only thing to give me pause is the cream cardigan. A bit too drapey to my eye for your crisp style if that makes any sense.
