Outfit SOS?

Well, maybe for next time, since I'm going out in this (for weekly tango practice). It started with trying to straighten my hair, which I've never gotten the hang of, and I'm not satisfied with it, so cover it up with a cabbie hat turned backward (since I don't yet own a beret). Then the whole attempt at arty schoolgirl fell into place, I guess. I certainly don't hate it, but wonder if it's not odd. I'll let you know if I get asked to dance more, less, or about the piddling same amount. Thanks for your always thoughtful and sweet responses. Xoxo

I think you look adorbs! I think I prefer the scarf facing front because the expanse of bare chest looks a little... bare and expansive to me, but that may just be my hangup. LOVE the cap, LOVE LOVE the shoes, and you know how much I adore that skirt!!

Hair straightening was a nightmare for me until I learned a simple technique. I am addicted to Living Proof PHD. About a quarter size applied to wet hair, blow dry with a round brush and then flat iron the top layer. This technique works for me every time. Btw- How cool is it that you takeTango classes? Love the skirt especially.

Very pretty, and love a skirt with a bit of twirl factor. Looks like a perfect dance ensemble. The red strappy maryjanes are cute too! Are they danceable or do you have to change?

Thank you, all. I really appreciate it. Ruby, no, I need to change into shoes that glide on the floor. Often tango shoes have suede or other soft material on their soles. Anyway, these Fluevogs have been really great to pair with skirts (I have a meager collection of heels so far--need to work on that).

Ramya, I would dance with you in a heartbeat! My favorite people to dance with are the women, actually.

I did get asked more than usual, in fact. I have no idea if it was the getup. On the other hand (down side), classmates from tango class, who see me often, didn't notice what I was wearing....hey, people, I do not dress like this often! And my husband??? He has NO excuse for not noticing. Blah.

Trishalee, thanks for the straightening tip. I am wondering do I get my hair shaped and then try to go back to straightening it? I've been getting away with almost no maintenance with the curls. I have no idea if this is a good look for me (which is why I'd have appreciated feedback from people who see me in real life....)

Mochi- I thought that might be the case. My husband and I lindy hop. We often change shoes, but sometimes I can get away with a leather sole. Depends on the floor. When I started I often wore shoes similar to your cute Fluevogs and they were great. Until I was ready to transition to a smoother style.
We're hoping to get out and dance more often, but dressing takes on a whole different role when we do.
I'm looking forward to comparing notes. Tango is so beautiful. Wish I could convince my husband. I'll just have to live a bit vicariously through you!

Ruby, tango is very glide-y, hence the need for shoes with a bit of traction, but the ability to gracefully skim the floor.

Tell your husband that men leaders in tango are in such demand, if he sticks with it he will be very very popular.

We took ballroom dance lessons (before kids) and I thought tango was really hard.
Keeping knee bent at all times is NO joke.
Our main lesson was rumba (we enjoyed chacha a lot too) and in group sessions we learned basic tango and twirl.
Hopefully we will go back to it once kids grow up.
Some day.

About straightening the hair, I find long bob to middle hair lenght easier to straighten than super short or super long hair. Plus I also use a heat protection+volumizer from Uniqone in summer and the same product, but from Glynt, in winter. (You might ask your hair stylist for tips... I found that different products in differeny seasons help. In summer, I have less frizz and my hair gets quite dry... while in winter I get more frizz, but my hair also tends to get heavy/dirty sooner. So products with different weights/application methods come in handy)

Mochi, I wonder if cutting off the longer lengths in back, but leaving the front essentially 'as is', which would give you an inverted bob might make straightening easier? You could still let it curl when you want, but you would have a 20's style curly bob with volume at the eyes and upper cheeks when the hair curls and shrinks up.

I like to iron my hair from time to time, but regardless of the conditioners and protective products, ironing is pretty harsh on the strands, so generally I avoid it.

Outfit is cute. A scarf that picks up the colours of the shoes, or a 'raspberry beret' would be fun, too!

Love this and no SOS is required. You look terrific and it's a playful outfit. Your hair looks so pretty in #2 and it seems you've got the knack of straightening down.

Hmmm. Sounds like we need to go beret shopping when you're here. I'm sure we'll find some decent and well-priced ones in our travels, but I love the way you wore this cap just fine and I like the scarf on the side.

Ah the tango! This is cute I adore the shoes and skirt. I understand about hair straightening woes. There is still too much moisture in the air for me to make the attempt. I like that you hair isn't pin straight. I always like a little body-- flat hair is no fun.
