We are still having warm weather but that is tipped to change after Easter. I will be putting away my linens and sandals soon.

Some of you may recall I introduced lilac into my wardrobe last summer. The second colour I introduced is sage green.

I love green. Mostly I wear brownish olives, golden olive, dark emerald, jade green, teal green and forest green. Sage green is new for me.

Sage green is a light, silvery green. A delicate and coolish colour. Not an obvious choice for me. But it is dusty, which suits my preferences. And it has a desert garden vibe that I like for summer. I thought it could work as a support act to my preferred deeper greens.

Once again, I started with a cotton shirred waist skirt that I dyed sage green. I already have a lot of green in my summer wardrobe so, unlike with lilac, I did not have to worry about putting together a capsule of coordinating tonal items.

3 With dark green
What I like about this combination is that it is a good way to wear dark green in summer. I love dark green, but it’s not a very summery colour. To me this combination looks summery. I think it helps that the lighter sage colour forms a larger block in the outfit. And, of course, I frequently use tan to lighten up my palette in summer.

4 With olive green
For a tonal combination, I think sage works well with olive green because olive looks like a darker version of sage.

5 With teal green
Loved this.

6 With green tie dye
I still have some diy tie dye tops from my project a few years ago. I like this outfit for walking my dog because I like to have my shoulders covered when outdoors for long periods.

7 With deep wine
The top looks brown but it’s actually a deep wine. Gets a warm colour near my face, which works for me.

8 With white and gold
I wore this to a BBQ on Australia Day as a subtle nod to my country’s colours (green and gold). Not very moody but it is patriotic.

9-10 With black
As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t usually like black with non neutral colours. But I do wear black with olive, as olive is almost a neutral to me. I think I liked these combinations because sage green has a similar vibe to olive green. Almost neutral.

The top in 10 is a beige top I dyed sage green with the skirt. Because the base colour was beige it came out a deeper green than the skirt, closer to olive.

Conclusion

I am pleased with this addition. It didn’t feel as different for me as lilac, or as challenging to introduce, but it felt fresh. I like the summery lightness of sage green, and it makes a change from the light blues, beiges and whites that proliferate in summer. And it gives me more ways to wear the deeper greens that I really love.
