Greyscale and Greenjeans, yes, this is the Boden Tweed blazer. I have the matching skirt and will probably wear them together with this top at some point. The question is whether I should go all-out and find matching mustard tights, or wear burgundy or navy (which I already have).
Angie and lisa p, I actually have matching statement socks! But they were in the wash today, so I went with boring black instead. I have some stripy grey socks that might work too.
Elle, I have a matching scarf as well (there is something to be said for doing a seasonal shop all at once!). I also have a couple of blue scarves that might work. And once it gets chillier I have a good assortment of wool scarves that will work -- but no wool scarves in September! That's just too early!
Smittie, the colour is very interesting -- I think I'd call it "amber" as it's a bit more orange/brown than I associate with mustard. Funnily enough, it is DS's favourite teacher's favourite colour, and he associates it with her! So every time I wear this top I get a comment from DS.
Adriana, yes, your sense of colour seems to align with mine. I usually wear the piped blazer with a neutral top (charcoal or chambray) because too many colours can feel too "busy" to me, so I try to echo the colours in the trim. I also think it looks better with solid black jeans, more pulled-together, whereas the tweed jacket looks much better with these greyish black jeans. (I am getting to the point where I have too many options, lol!) The jacket in #5 is a really nice blue-grey and I think I will try it again with blue denim and a navy print scarf; it might tie in better that way. The plaid jacket felt right once I swapped out the black oxfords for burgundy boots. Navy footwear could work too...
Suntiger, it sounds like we're on the hunt for similar colours! It's warmer than I usually wear, honestly, but I think it's okay. I suspect my colouring falls somewhere between dark winter and dark autumn. I've tried to be a true winter and felt like the colours were wearing me, but if I go too warm/muted, that looks pretty blah too. Ultimately, though, I just don't worry about it too much and wear whatever I like.
Rachylou, I think this has confirmed my suspicion that I like earthy brights with black well enough, but LOVE them with grey. Whenever I wear a tweedy grey, I feel like it needs some cognac, mustard or cinnamon. Spice it up.
Runcarla and JAileen -- glad to hear some love for the Brooks Brothers blazer! It is a great piece, but a bit tricky to wear. Much like lisa p with her pinstripe Smythe, I always feel like I am missing the "perfect" top to go with it, so I'm aways making myself try tops that seem good-enough, rather than perfect. Oftentimes that works just fine.
FashIntern, Katerina, and Smittie -- the plaid shirt is what I ended up wearing today! With burgundy boots (first boots day since last spring!). I think I actually like this colour with burgundy, which comes as a surprise. It's not a combo I'd considered before.
