I bought this top a couple of months ago. DD has a similar one and I had often wished I had one like hers. But I've hardly worn this. DD's is aqua and I just bought cobalt because it's one of my favourite colours but - it is too close a colour to denim to wear with jeans, and doesn't have the longer back hers does, which adds to the style. In fact I feel rather dowdy in it.

I'm trying it here with these gorgeous pants (I agree TG) from Lyn D that I usually wear with the matching knit top she passed on as well - and I like that combination (with Lyn's top) a lot better. Tucking or semi tucking seemed awkward with this top.

Also, I usually wear these pants in summer with my SE Trinas in silver but they are so cracked I really don't think I should wear them to work. So I pulled out these 3 years old shoes. They are very comfy as they were bought when I had a job with a lot of standing. Style wise though - I don't like them much.

The shade of blue is really lovely on you Anne. If you like the longer back of your daughter's top, would it be possible to have a few inches taken off the front of yours? The shorter length may work better with these pants that way, too (it's a fun pairing for sure). I don't mind the longer length though. Perhaps the very waist surrendering aspect of it makes you feel dowdy? Blue denim might feel off, but black or white would work quite nicely.

Looks great to my eye. I like the top. The lace is very pretty. And I like the column of color it creates with the jeans. Doesn't look dowdy at all. I also like the shoes as they bookend your hair! Great outfit.

Anne, it's the straight hem across your thighs that is making you feel this way. I bet that if the top had a curved hem, or high-low hemline, you'd have gravitated towards it more.

No harm done. Tuck it into your skirts.

I think I realised before I even read your responses that this isn't quite loose enough at the bottom for me to be comfortable wearing it as a voluminous style. There's probably only about 2 inches ease

Aida - I wondered about shortening the front too, though I also think I'd like the back to be longer

Angie - thanks for your clear perspective. I can still, as you point out, tuck it into my shirts. This is not the first time, however that I have bought a top to wear "out" with jeans and have not had it suit that purpose. I have lots of things already to tuck into skirts for work!

At least this was a very inexpensive purchase.

The top fits in a very flattering way, but I admit it's not working for me. I agree about the lack of contrast with the bottoms, but do feel you're on to something in terms of pattern for interest. Or metallics.

Also a longer layer on top might do the trick too-
a sleeveless vest or light cardigan in black or navy?
