Outfit lab - help me with the style - transitioning a summer dress

Today, I wanted to try to transition my favourite summer navy silk dress by Bruuns Bazaar into autumn. I combined the dress with a brown checked jacket, navy tights and navy thick sole lace-ups by Geox. The jacket is by Liu Jo. Then I added a colourful blue handbag (Ferragamo) and I piled on several chunkey gold necklaces. And no scarf!

The second outfit is an attempt to be a

bit trendy, but I think I look wierd. The same dress by Bruuns Baxaar, navy lace up shoes, charity shop 80ies jacket (no name) and a scarf by Versace. Maybe a grey bag?’

So what do guys think about me sans scarf? And is the second outfit totally weird or possible to wear? Do you like the first outfit?Any suggestions welcome!

I like #1 ok but I LOVE #2. The lighter legs contrast, the longer open jacket, the scarf, the oxfords, the bangs... I love it all.

Both gorgeous! I think I actually prefer #1 -- the blue bag looks great with the navy dress, and that jacket is just so pretty and drapy. I'm a die-hard fan of opaque black tights, but sheer black could work to lighten the look.

You have given me ideas on how to bring a similar navy summer dress into cooler weather. Try the second outfit with the navy tights. You may like it better. I want to steal your scarf. A good scarf with black, navy and some white in the print has been a HEWI but would be so useful in pulling a black and navy outfit together. I love how you wear scarves but with your jewelry also looks fab.

I love the first look for a change of pace, the necklaces are a fine substitution for the scarf, the bag is magnificent and Iove the blue/brown/gold combination. I like the second outfit also, but the bare legs with oxfords are throwing me off slightly - not that I have a better idea !

I love #2, but they’re both great combos.
Try putting the blue bag with the second outfit—it echoes the blue in the scarf nicely!

I do like #2 more - the boldly patterned jacket, the deep blue dress, and jewel tones of the scarf both contrast AND coordinate. You could perhaps also try it with some subtly textured stockings.

They both look good, but I actually prefer 2. I think all the solid colored piece in 1 don't reflect what I think of as your signature style.

I can say both outfits are lovely, your style, and you can wear them with pleasure. I personally like the best #1 for a change, without scarf. The necklace is beautiful on you .
You can try second outfit with some fashion hosiery, I like spots , maybe nude bother you.

You’ve got to come up with other ways to wear your scarves. They are lovely and have been a signature, but here and in the black & white “tucked in” outfit you just look so much more vivacious and energetic without them. The scarves tend towards stolid, maybe even in the direction of matronly. Maybe fold one into a triangle and drape it across your shoulders so there’s just one knot in front? Feed it through your belt loops? That wouldn’t show much pattern. Hmm....

The necklaces are great!

Have you thought about the lighter legs and no scarf, or would that just feel naked?

I love both outfits, they are a beautiful way to transition your dress and these autumnal tones are lovely on you. Scarf or no scarf, you always look divine, but I do appreciate how Like the Season called you The Scarf Whisperer as no one wears a scarf quite as well as you.

I like the version with the black hose better. Try black polka dot hose

Try jacket #2 over outfit #1.

Interesting how the opinion on scarves varies. I personally love scarves and I will probably never stop wearing them frequently. However, one of my goals is to wear outfits without scarves as well and use other accessories to achieve more outfit variety. And also to adjust my eye to another kind of look on me. It takes some effort though, because the easiest is to grab a scarf.

I looked at the second outfit again, and I think I don’t feel comfortable with the nude hose and heavy jacket and shoes.... thank you for the suggestions on that.

I would like to see the blue bag with the scarf outfit, since it would pick up one of the colours in the scarf.

Katerina, first of all, you ALWAYS look fab. That said, I had the same thought about the second outfit - I think black hose (or polka dot as suggested above) would create that nice, long, dramatic column that I associate with your style.

You always dress beautifully, but you look so approachable and fresh with the layered necklace instead of the high scarf! I feel that the solid bangs above your eyes and the scarves tucked up to your chin leaves too little of your lovely skin showing.
I love both outfits but would like to see the heavy shoes swapped out for a kitten-heeled bootie!

Yup, I agree with Bennett. Layered necklaces are very eye catching but I think the heavy shoes weigh down your elegant look. If you don't want to wear heels, maybe try a lower vamp shoe?

I didn’t recognize you in #1! They both look nice, but I would want a scarf to keep my neck warm when it turns cooler.

What about adding a scarf to a bag? Then you still have the print and pop of color, but can wear necklaces too!
