Has anyone tried this look? I would do it in a heartbeat but I don't have the right kind of vest...

Ummm... I like it.
I have done the sleeveless top and vest thing ad nauseatum, but like you, I don't have the right vest for this. I like it a lot. Perhaps you could take an old blazer and rip off the sleeves?

These sleeveless jackets are what I know as "gilets". VERY '90s. I used to have a few back then - in linen, and in black and red. Some single breasted and some double breasted. I like the look!

Zap, I was thinking that when I get home I am going to have a look through my donation bag and see if there are any jackets in there that I can de-sleeve. Not sure I have any though since most of my jackets are too cropped. The BF style blazers don't generally fit me.

I would love a sleeveless trench type thing too... Allsaints used to make these sleeveless trench dresses that I bet would work here too.

Interesting! I have vests that are both shorter and longer that I might try. I like the baggy pants vs. structured vest look.
