Outfit help needed

I like this mesh sweater, got it a few years ago with thoughts of wearing as shown, or with a strappy tank top. It was too warm in Tampa for these pants, and now I don’t have the tank tops. What can I do with this cardi?

It looks like a good one to pop over simple dresses especially, or with shorts and tank tops too!

I second Suntiger's suggestions ... dresses or shorts would work great. I think it would be nice over a navy (or is it black?) top to create a more monochromatic look.

I also think layering it over shorts or dresses would be fab !! And for a different look, you could try cinching it with a belt.

Yes, definitely try it over dresses/skirts. Maybe a tube or other pencil-type skirt to balance out the volume and floatiness? Would look nice with any shoe with a sporty white sole, I think.

Or crops. Or pants. Or a skirt.
And do you need to add a tank top(s) back into the mix? Almost any color could go with it

Thank you everyone for the unanimous choice of anything but pants. Part 2 of the question is what colors would work with it? I don’t want to completely obscure the mesh by wearing it with a color it blends with, but this sure isn’t what i want to do either. Maybe I could stick with white, but a lot less of it, like shorts & a tank top, or something like Carla’s recent post?

If anyone wonders why they should try something on before counting on it, here is a very good demonstration. I envisioned this outfit—wrongly—for ages.

It looks good styled the way you have it! Was your concern that you don’t want to wear a non-tank top under it?
I might add a belt or a necklace.

Fine to have with pants, I just don’t like that particular ( cream?) colour with the white pants, and are the pants a wee bit tight for tucking? I would try a white top rather than cream, which sat just below the waistband.

Oh, I actually think the white jeans are a good instinct! I misread your question and thought you wanted options for warmer weather. The cream top and white jeans look a little off to me because the shades are close but not a match. The warm/muted and cool/bright clash a bit. But I could see almost any colour top working in place of the cream if you want to stick with the white jeans. Citron/yellow, pink/red/berry, any shade of blue, etc.

I agree -- I like it with the white jeans, but the cream tank top is throwing me off. Try a white tank instead?

I like the idea of pairing it with a black top or a simple black dress too, but if you don't want to go dark how about pastel blue or pink for a kind of 80s nod? I agree with La Ped that just about any color could work!

Will always complement best a column of white/light grey or may be a very pale pastels (blush, olive, pink). Would try it again as in this pictie but with the top untucked maybe then the differences between shades of whites will blend in better.

It’s been a week since I posted this? Whoops. I had no idea. Sorry!

It’s funny to me that the photo of this outfit seems fine. In reality, this outfit is clearly not fab.

It has gotten hot again. I’ve just passed 3 women wearing all (or predominantly) white. I’m taking notes from them on how to do that, will report back or post another outfit when Ive got it figured out. So far, from them, I see that it’s a hot hot day option, and from your kind comments I see that making sure the whites work well together without the sweater is step one.

Thanks too for all the suggestion of other ways to wear this sweater. More options are always good!
