Outfit help for music recital

my first WIW or what I might wear actually! I couldn't post this earlier but I have a music recital this afternoon ..it's in a church. I haven't done my hair or face...just trying out things. 1 or two? Any suggestions for either are also welcome!

Those are both nice outfits, but I think you will be better seen if you wear something with some color - maybe a bright top with the skirt from #2?

Thanks museum girl! At the moment though don't have anything appropriate with that top in color..what if I add some colored accessories? Would it work

Thanks Jude! I am going with 1 too I think - although the top in 2 (from Loft) is sparkly which you cant see in the pic. But I somehow am not comfortable with how it fits with that skirt too - I think I need to downsize that skirt.

Havent yet worn it Angie - the recital is in a couple of hours - Was leaning toward 1 and now you have me swinging to 2 again! Maybe will try it with sheer tights instead of opague - feel a little matronly in #2

I like TWO! Because it's a closer, neater silhouette. You want your audience to pay attention to your beautiful music, not necessarily what you are wearing imo.

I think it will also depend on what kind of music you make. I play piano and I don't think #1 would allow me the range I needed

Oh; that reminds me of the time that I wore a tight belt to a voice recital. Never doing THAT again

Lyn, you are so right about that - this is a voice recital and like Karymk said, I dont want to draw attention to what I am wearing - just want to feel appropriately dressed for the event - hm - a tight belt would help hide my nerves I think Haha!

But I think I will go with 1 this time although I like 2 more - Skirts and tops are something I dont wear too often(Although I like it these days) - I will use 1 coz its more of a comfort zone! But thank you all for the help!

Ooooh! Singing! Now I've got you. 1 highlights your face and has a neat silhouette. #2 has great drama and movement. You can't go wrong.

Let us know what you sang and how it went!

P.S. I have a couple of guidelines for singing garb:
1. Highlight the face -- that's where the communication happens.
2. Don't wear anything above the knee without dark hosiery -- unless you're a rock star, of course. Usually we sing on a stage, and, well, people see "up" if you know what I mean! You've got that covered with the tights, here, so good to go.
3. I love movement in my clothes on stage, just 'cause I think it looks nice. That said, I try to avoid anything too fussy.

My vote is for 2 which I think is just the right tone for your recital. Enjoy.

Hi! I teach piano! Are you a student?

I'm absolutely going to recommend #1. In my experience, vocalists dress much more "showy" than pianists. Loose, nothing restrictive so you can breathe, something dramatic because you are facing the audience. That pattern brings drama to your face.

You have none of the pianist concerns about jackets restricting shoulders, flowy material getting the way of your arms, heels messing up your pedaling, etc.

Beth - I'm singing 'Without you' (Mariah) - hope the weather in Chicago is not going to cancel the event!

Hi, Vipanchi--

Another performing musician here (pipe organ).

Which did you wear, and how did your performance go?

I would have picked #1. It looks flowing and comfortable, as well as beautiful. I want my clothing to be as comfortable as possible so I never have to think about it during a concert.

Another consideration for women is can you take a bow without revealing more than you want to, if you know what I mean?!

Nice how many musicians are here in the YLF group!!

I ended up wearing #1 - was good in a way I think coz I saw lots of people with black skirts like in #2 - so mine looked a lil different. The performance went pretty well although I felt like I was better in the rehearsal yesterday!

I like the bow test! But I am always a little more conservative than usual for music concerts! So never have that problem!

I'm dying to know which outfit you wore. I would have voted for #1, for the same reasons Peri and Windchime said. I hope everything went awesome!
