My husband was hospitalized unexpectedly last week. There have been a number of related worries, of course, but what to wear hasn't been among them. I found I have in my closet the perfect uniform (for me) for many consecutive days of hospital visits.

Every day, I have worn:

  • Long cardigan (I have several)
  • Solid tee
  • Jeans (blue or black) with a bit of stretch
  • Comfortable flats or nice sneakers
  • Cotton or silk scarf

These clothes are presentable and comfortable for the hour-and-a-half drive each way, quite a bit of walking through a large hospital, and sitting in a chilly room for several hours with my patient. Along with my purse, I've been carrying a tote for my knitting, a book, a water bottle and snacks.

It feels good to be prepared for at least part of this ordeal.
