Outfit for my sister's confirmation? (with update on the skirt)

So I tried the vinegar thing and then did what Mander suggested and just crumpled and wringed the skirt to 'break' the fabric before ironing. And it's much better! I think I really can wear it at my sister's confirmation now, I think it looks great with the black blazer.

I've taken some pictures, maybe you can help me with further outfit planning. Please excuse the way I look, I'm still fighting with the cold.

I'd like to wear skirt, flats and the blazer in any case. I will probably need to go with hose because it won't be that warm yet. I have to see if hose works with the skirt though, because it is unlined. I'm also not sure if I want to use my grey handbag, maybe I should buy an inexpensive clutch instead? If yes, what color/material? Any ideas about accessorizing? I don't necessarily need to wear a watch.

The skirt is high waisted, it sits in my natural waist. The top I'm wearing here is a clingy cotton tank and I definitely have muffin top if I take the blazer off. I really need a new top. What would you look for? For the color I thought maybe white, the lighter blue or pink - to echo one of the colors in the skirt and make it more spring appropriate.

Old pic showing me modelling the dress I'm going to lend to my sister for the occasion. She's a bit shorter than me and has to get the straps shortened, but it fits perfectly otherwise. She's also shortwaisted so the dress fits her just right. She looks fantastic in it. Just thought I'd show you. We also bought the blazer in #5 to wear over it. It looks awesome, the lapel points in front hit just at the waist sash and the fabric goes very well with the dress. I'm going to help her with shoe shopping when I meet up with my family in Hamburg next week.

As for my outfit, I'd love to hear your suggestions! Thanks.

Ohh I love how it looks without any hose Astrid! Adds some lightness. Any chance you could do sheer hose or something else light like that? I think it's really cute and also like the high-waist proportions; makes your legs look mega long even in the flats. I would like to see the blazer cuffs turned back and pushed up though.

Yes, I do think I could do sheer hose. I just don't want to go with bare legs. I think I'm going to buy a few options in the next weeks and see how it looks. I can see what you mean about the sleeves, the length is somewhat in between. They are rather tight though and the two buttons are not functional. I just tried it and I can fold them over just once. Or I'd have to get the sleeves shortened.

Ahh ok that makes sense on the sleeves. I think that in-between length always makes me feel awkward because my arms are long Folding over once, or even a half, might be enough of a difference, though. I like the arm with the watch on it (hmm did that sound weird?), how about adding a sparkly cuff to the other one to make the sleeves feel like a more intentional bracelet sleeve?

It does sound a bit weird, but I guess I get what you mean about the watch. I don't have a sparkly cuff, but I have a bracelet I could wear. It was my grandma's and I haven't worn it much yet because it's too precious for everyday wear.

What a gorgeous bracelet! That would certainly work, but not if you aren't comfortable wearing it of course.

Thanks. No, I'm alright with wearing it - I just don't want to normally because I don't want to lose or damage it. But it's okay for an occasion like this.

I love that skirt! Looks great with blazer and I agree with Aida about the hose. Did you see Angie's blog on what to wear with a flared skirt? Have you considered a blouse with a band at the bottom? Would banish muffin top and tame the high waistedness a bit. I would try a colour in the skirt - what about that touch of gold that's in there, or the light blue?

Thanks Nicole! Yes, I saw the post. A blouse with a banded bottom might work if it's cropped enough. I agree that the theory is good, it's just hard to find tops that are short enough if I do not tuck them in. I agree about the light blue, but I'm not so sure about the gold/yellow, it's not the best color on me.

Astrid, just a quick comment fr now, I like the look just as it is. This skirt reminded me of one of Angie's, check here, here and here, perhaps you can get some ideas for future for styling it.

Your sister's blazer is beautiful and will really lift up the outfit.

Astrid, the unfit looks nice. A line skirts look nice on your shape. I don't see any muffin top; I think it looks good as it is. A clutch in one of the colours of the skirt would look nice. A pretty peacock blue or the reddish colour. That's the way it looks on my monitor.

This is looking wonderful! and I am glad you could outfit your sister so nicely too. That blazer for her looks fab. For you, I think either nude hose or a very lacey hose would look great. Maybe even swiss dots, if that's not too busy for you. I think a black v-neck would be a great option. Something substantial but thin, so that you can tuck it into the high waist of the skirt. I think a red clutch would look great with this. I think a watch is okay for daytime. A white shirt might work, but I suspect that I like the low contrast of the black here.

Thanks Scarlet! I'll see what hose options I can find. I need some new ones anyway. I see why low contrast with the top might be better. A clutch in red sounds lovely too. I don't have a clutch at all at the moment, so I don't need to limit myself in my search to avoid duplicating.

I really like this look! I think it will look great with sheer stockings. Target carries the Hanes Silk Reflections that are sheer, and they have a shade for paler skin - but I don't have an unopened package to refer to.

To accessorize, you might pin a pretty silk flower or funky brooch on your lapel, or put tuck a flower behind one ear, and wear a retro pinup-girl makeup look (red lipstick, black eyeliner). And the blue clutch sounds like a great idea!

Thanks Belle! I'm in Europe so we don't have Target. I think I'm going to invest in some Falke hose though. And I love the look of red lipstick and black eyeliner, but not for church.

That skirt is lovely on you. I was thinking you had lost weight too but it must be the excellent proportions. I think black works with it but a softer color would be nice too. My first thought on bag color was a lavender/lilac. I see some of the blues verging on these shades. Another option would be to use the yellow/oranges for accessories.

Whatever you choose, you will look beautiful. The bracelet is a nice addition especially for a family event.
