Outfit Creation Session With Sweater Duplicated in Two Colors

I found this sleeveless turtleneck sweater/tunic and quite like it. I got it in black and in grey. Here are a few outfits I tried, what do you think? I
think I will just keep one, probably the grey one. Included in finds is an outfit inspiration I found on Nordstrom.com.

1 - The grey one with red straight leg jeans and a white lightweight turtleneck, new black loafers. I've had these jeans for several years but never found a way to style them that I liked as much as this.

2 - The black one over grey flared trousers with a white shirt and black booties. Not sure I like the style as much with flared pants. Not sure about the red beads…looks a bit dated.

The grey one over a black skirt with a blush top and black suede booties. The skirt is a replacement for placeholder I've had for a few years (Yay on replacing placeholders! ) It looks a little bulky through the torso because the blush top is a sweater rather than a long sleeved T so I’d probably go with a long sleeved T instead.

#3 is the skirt length as-is, #4 is with the waist rolled to simulate a slightly shorter length which I think is a little better.

I've been eyeing sweaters like this this year too. One reason I'm drawn to them is that I can layer over them too. With a thicker knit like this, but with sleeves, I don't like wearing a jacket or cardigan on top because my arms feel suffocated under all that fabric. I'd try these with a jean jacket and a blazer for sure.

I really like all the looks you've put together here as well. The skirt looks especially caught my eye. I didn't notice the difference in skirt length until I went back and read your post. I might like it a smidge better at the longer length. Both look great to me, though.

Lovely sweater. I like #2. How abt adding the red beads to that combo?

I think I like the skirt a smidge longer and perhaps w more opaque tights.

I agree that the grey is the better one to keep. The lovely texture detail seems lost on the black in your pic.

You look fabulous. I especially like the first two. Wow you really pulled off number one..I remember that picture and to be honest I think you look better than the model in that outfit. I prefer your shoes and I lIke your vest better than the split one.

I like the sweater in concept. I wonder about the length and where it hits your lovely figure. Shorter or longer may work a smidge better.

The tunic with the red jeans is a huge win in my book. Love it--and how fab that you can get more wear from the jeans. I'm slightly more partial to this style of tunic with trousers than a skirt, but that's just my eye. I agree with Lady that opaque tights could add a certain something (not to mention warmth!).

I love all of these! What about wrapping the red beads around your wrist, layered bracelet style? I almost prefer the tneck unadorned, it's such a nice piece on its own, but the red pop of color looks terrific.

Thanks for all the replies, very interesting that some of you prefer #1 and some prefer #2. I think I will go with both, using the grey sweater and returning the black.

Traci yes you've got it, a sleeveless sweater is easier to layer over than one wiht thicker sleeves.

Colette, the necklace is actually wood beads that has been in my jewelry box forever. I wore it a lot at some point in the distant past. I hardly ever wear it lately but keep it for that time it will be just right.

Lady I could do the red beads with any of these outfits. And yes, I'd probably do opaque tights instead of what I'm wearing here. You are right, it does seem that the grey one shows the knit texture better than the black.

bj1111 yes length is so crucial. This piece is a bit of an experiment and was quite inexpensive so I'm not being too picky about the length for a change.

Aliona I tend to agree, it's a bit better over pants than a skirt.

Cerinda I could try black tees & beads by trying not to go too close to solid black. Hmm..I have a black blouse with sheer sleeves, that could work for a dressier look.

TorontoGirl I could do the beads as a bracelet except that the elastic is completely shot and I'd have to restring it.. I think I agree with you that the sweater looks better on it's own.
