My partner's business gave him free tickets to an evening sporting event with a +1 for this weekend. He asked me to attend with him but I have no idea what to wear. I am going to be meeting his future boss (he's about to transfer areas), current and future co-workers, etc. We are supposed to view the game from the box the company got.

I would feel uncomfortable wearing a dress to a sporting event. I was thinking I would wear a nicer T-shirt or blouse and pants. I am trying to make sure the top I choose is in the team's colors (navy blue, grey, or light blue). I have a feeling I should wear pants and not jeans. Does this possible outfit seem too informal since I am going to be meeting so many people from his company?

J.B. I agree that I would wear a blouse, either short or long sleeve, with pants and not wear jeans. (I find jeans can get too hot anyways.) Definitely comfortable shoes too. Usually box seats have elevators, but there can be lots of stairs.

i'd dress relative to how this business dresses for work...if they wear jeans to work, then i'd wear jeans or nice shorts and a tee...if they wear suits, then i'd wear a nice pair of cotton pants and a nice tee or button down...
i'm assuming A) you're in the US B)this is not a work night, since you mention weekend C) this is for a baseball game

To Angie: He told me there is no dress code that he knows of. He normally wears "informal" dress pants (khaki, grey, or black) and a nice polo or collared company shirt for official work occasions outside of the office.

The business is an enormous company and they dress depending on the occasion: for example if he has a meeting he will dress more formally but if he has to work outside in the field supervising his team he usually will wear a work shirt and jeans. I've attended an international company wide meeting (very formal) and jeans were expressly not allowed. At that event everyone wore business formal attire.

I don't think this setting will be the same at all. It's a soccer game, to be more detailed!

Since they have not posted a dress code I am hoping it's business casual?

The pieces I am considering (while trying to wear something gray or light blue to support the team) are:

Black skinny ankle pants
Fitted black dress pants
Black and white sneakers (more formal looking, like this

I am trying to adhere to what BlueJay cautioned and wear comfortable shoes, otherwise I would be thinking of something different for footwear.

I agree with kkards but your outfit sounds fine. I go to a lot of soccer games and have been in the boxes once or twice and most people dress on the casual side. I don’t think erring on the side of dressier is wrong, though. I’d rather be more dressed up than less in that kind of situation.

I go to a lot of sporting events and concerts. Usually the people in the box seats are a bit more dressed up than those of us in the cheap seats (although no seats are cheap these days!). Nice pants or casual skirt and top, bonus points for team colors or team tee shirt, and definitely comfortable shoes or nice sneakers. Bring a sweater or jacket because sometimes it’s cold with the A.C.
I sat in the box seats once (for a concert, Journey and Def Leopard) and wore dark wash slim fit jeans with a pretty tunic. Other women were either dressed as I was, or were wearing casual skirts.
I sat in the outdoor box section once at a Phillies baseball game and everyone was wearing shorts or jeans and tee shirts. Sporting event goers seem to be a bit more dressed down than concert goers.

Boxes can get cold so plan for that.

Your choices sound great. Have you thought about a summer dress with sleeves or with a light cardi and fancy trainers or sandals?

I'll stick with being on the "business casual" side of things just in case, wearing a blouse in team colours, and using comfortable shoes like you all suggested. Karie and bj1111 I'll be sure to take a jacket, thank you!

It went really well! Sorry, my in-laws came to visit for quite awhile so I have been inactive! Thank you all for the advice! The event was a lot more casual than I thought it would be, so what I chose to wear (business casual) ended up being perfectly fine.
