My main goal this winter was to embrace winter walking. Not always easy in this climate and not always easy to be motivated.
I did buy a few new items to help.
First a new winter coat for extreme weather. I ended up buying a Columbia Omniheat called Lay D Down. Its an excellent jacket for me. It comes to the knee, has an excellent hood, hand covers, and the omniheat makes is fairly light. So far I have only been able to wear it a few times. I find that anything about about -8 c and it is too warm (when moving). I have used it to -20 c so far and it was solid.
For the above -8 c I use my old and trusted pink verbio. It is also knee length. Perfect until about + 5 c.
I also traded in some old ice grippers for these ones pictured. They have a full bottom of spikes without coils so are more comfortable for longer walks. They velcro over your winter boot rather than pulling a spring style rubber band. I have had to use these quite a few times and have been super happy. I purchased them from a company called Lee Valley.
