Out of season shopping - help me decide?

It seems strange to look at spring and summer clothes when I've just started with fall and winter stuff, but I got a mail for the Boden preview and if you order in the next few days you have shipping free in March and 20% off everything.

I had a look through it and they do have a lot of nice looking pieces. Boden is normally a bit too expensive for me, but these would be alright with the discount:

Just a nice cotton tank top. I need A LOT of new tops for spring and summer, most of mine are worn out. This one would be nice for bookending my black birks or oxfords without being too dark. I like the geometrical pattern.

White denim skirt. Seems to be slight a-line. Angie suggested a while ago that I should go lighter with my spring and summer wardrobe and I think this would be a white bottom I could do. It's also long enough to be a decent option for the workplace.

Cotton dress. Love the cut, colors and pattern. And it has pockets! Still not cheap, but I'd love to have some more dresses. I could see this with a nice belt, my denim vest or my denim jackets.

What do you think? Should I order them all (or one or two of them)? I'd probably order several sizes because the exact measurements aren't online yet. This would be like a reservation, I wouldn't have to pay right now.

Astrid - I am a big proponent of planning ahead. If they are exactly what you are looking for I would encourage you to order them. If you are having Boden love and wow the price is good but I am not feeling the love then I would wait. I do buy out of season but only if it's love. Does that help? PS if you'd be upset if they were not available later then you know what to do!!

I try not to buy out of season. Yes, the prices are better, but will these still be pieces you will want come spring/summer?

I am far too fickle to know myself.

Right or wrong, I always sort of wonder why items are still available this late. What's wrong with them, so to speak.

Thanks Gryffin! I don't have an exact shopping list, my wardrobe is so small pretty much everything new is useful. I only know that I need to build it up in general. I don't think they'd be sold out in spring, but they would be at full price of course. And by the time the summer sale comes they won't be useful and might not be left in my size.

I think pre-buying basics that you know you'll need is really wise - take advantage of the price. As for other things, the danger is in whether your tastes are likely to change between now and when you'll wear them. Your style seems reasonably well defined to me - do you think what you like will change between now and then?

Astrid I think that the tank and the skirt are wonderful and could be considered classics. They would work very well in your wardrobe. I say pounce on those.
I actually love the dress but it would cause me more concern in terms of buying early given the strong print. That being said it still may be worth trying.

You seem to be usually be pretty clear about what you're looking for, so go ahead and order these and see how they work for you. They're basic items, no trendy ones, so you won't be suddenly changing your mind.

I see the white skirt as a very basic go-with-anything classic piece. The tank top seems semi-classic to my eye as the green binding colour may limit some mix options.I like the cut of the dress and think that navy/blues tend to be fairly classic picks for spring/summer ( and the print is nowhere near the wildest or boldest I've ever seen-I have a similar print in teal and it has had several wears ).

Skirt - yes yes yes. Such a great shape I am tempted to order it too. My weight has gone down a bit and I have no idea what will happen over the winter, that's my only concern now.

The dress is lovely as well.

As for tank top, you know best what your needs are.

I see no problem with ordering them if the price is right and they function as basics for you. If they work you will have some holes already plugged next Spring....that is an awesome feeling.

Thanks Amiable! I think these are rather classic, so I don't think I wouldn't like them anymore in a few months. I don't feel any big style shifts coming in any case. Never mind fit and so on, those styles would fit well into my casual life in any case. I won't start to dress up, but I need to refine my casual looks.

Thanks Glory! I was actually most unsure about the dress, of course it's also the most expensive of the three pieces. Although I wouldn't call the navy one a strong pattern. I'm not considering the beach print! I like that one, but I know I would tire of it. Also love the yellow, but the color doesn't love me back.

I think you made the most conservative choices for the tank and dress. IMHO the other choices would flatter you as well. Any chance that you would want to walk, I mean dress, on the wilder side come summer?

Thanks Ornella! I would order two sizes anyway. And I'm sure I won't lose or gain more weight than that! Mmh, now you made me wonder about the tank top. I agree it's nothing special, I thought it would be nice enough with my navy shorts when it's really hot. I guess I don't NEED to order it.

DonnaF, I'm not in love with the other patterns of the tank and the warm yellow isn't a good color on me. The beach print dress is great, but I'm not sure I could still see it after one year of wearing it. Would you think it worth the risk? The yellow of the other one isn't one of my good colors, so that one is out, even if I like it in theory.

I vote pass. Summer is not your dominant season and who knows what you will feel like wearing 6 to 8 months from now.

Thanks for chiming in, Angie! I do had some difficulties to find something to wear to work this year, so I guess I felt like should use the opportunity.
