Out in the Field--- and JOB! - YouLookFab Forum

Hey ladies!

I haven't been around much. I am currently in the field in a remote location with no cell and very limited internet 5 days a week for my graduate program. Sorry I haven't been around, since I miss YLF but I have been enjoying the program. The field session has a blog, written for non-specialists to excite people about archeology/the daily experience. The field portion of the program has a mix of grad and undergrad students. I am including a link to an entry I wrote:

In other news, I recently interviewed for a 2-year position as a collections' manager and photographer with a local museum that recently recieved a grant to move and re-house their collections and update their database. I was offered the job and have accepted the position and am excited to begin work as soon as my semester wraps up. Because of the non-profit nature of the museum and cuts in government funding recently, the pay is not what I had hoped, but otherwise it is a great opportunity. I am very glad to have some longer term work that will keep me in the area near my family and SO and be invaluable experience for the time being. For those that have been around for awhile, I've been looking for something more permanent than my contracting for nearly 3 years.

Elly, thanks for the blog link. It's a great read and I've bookmarked it on my iPad so I can follow it. The Chaco Culture NHP has always been on my Must See list and I almost made it there this fall, but, unfortunately, had to miss it because of scheduling changes. Otherwise I'd probably one of those people perched above, watching your team work. But I promise I wouldn't ask you to drop your field work for a session of trail work--that is too funny!

And congratulations on the new job. It's too bad the pay for these jobs is not better, but the work sounds so interesting--and important.

Ooh, congrats!

Chaco is on my list to visit as well. I thought I might get there on my NM trip last spring, but I didn't allow myself enough time. NM is a big state to cover in a week or so.

A friend and colleage has done a lot of work at Chaco. It's an amazing site.

Thank you so much! Ceit, now I am curious as to who your colleague is! Janet, you will definitely have to make time on a future trip.

I have one more week of field work and will be sad to leave Chaco, although I think the bad weather we are expecting might make it easier, having slept through an ice storm in a tent on Wednesday night.

My first day at the new job was Friday. In some ways I am excited, and in others, maybe not so much.
