I thought it may be fun to share our favourite pictures of our stylish Mums or mother figures.

Here's my Mum in the early 70's on the dancefloor in Blackpool, she happened to win a competition for the best twist.

I love this photo for her gamine style but moreso for her carefree spirit. She's so lost in the moment and I find it beautiful to see.

I would love to see a photo of your Mum or the women who helped shape your life and to hear why you love the photograph too.

So beautiful!! Love this.

My mom's style was "a little bit different" (her words) ... she loved things that were somewhat classic but had a unique twist or creative detail (she loved to find small boutiques that carried something other than the mainstream fare). And she was Queen Navy, inspiring my own love of the shade!

She is adorable!

I wish I had some pix to share, but my mom was SO not into fashion. She never worried about how she looked, probably because she was too busy chasing her five unruly daughters around! The only time I remember her dressing up was in a dress a friend loaned her to go to a wedding. I thought she looked gorgeous, like Audrey Hepburn, but I don't have a picture of that occasion. She was very carefree and just wore whatever was handy and clean, and never wore makeup. The funny thing is, she liked dressing us up! A devoted mom, for sure.

What a great photo! I can see why you cherish it.

The photos I have of my mom are not so candid, and they don't really capture her spirit. Mom was interested in style; she taught me to sew, and I loved shopping and sewing with her. I would say her style was fairly classic; she favored practical and timeless looks. I gained some of her reserved style, and I think I also took on a lot of my style sense from my dad. Here are a couple of photos, one before I was born and one when I was almost a year and a half old.

I have no photos of my mum looking stylish because a.) she ditched stylish well before I was born and b.) she no longer speaks to me so I can hardly ask her for photos -- but cheers to those with a stylish example to follow!

Here's a happy way I can chime in. Some of my most fun memories of childhood were being allowed to "dress up" in my mum's jewelry box full of extravagant paste rhinestones from the American 1950s. (And yes, I did call her Mum.) Her clothes by then were way too boring for dress up but the jewelry still sparkled.

Sometimes I would mess with her makeup -- against house rules -- and I would do weird stuff like using concealer stick as lipstick to see what a person without lips would look like. My mum had the same exact tube of mascara and single pan of dry eyeshadow (aqua, brown, white, something else) throughout my entire childhood and who knows why she had a concealer stick at all -- maybe some Avon lady said it was an essential.

I found my little stash of mom pics.

Mom loved clothes and fashion. When she was young, she had aspirations of studying fashion design but WWII put all that aside. I still have some drawings she did as a teen and they’re wonderful.

She was always very neatly groomed and took excellent care of her health and appearance. She was a very classic dresser. And she had a wonderful smile, even though she battled depression and anxiety her entire life.

I love the dressed up photos from Easter (5) and Christmas, and of course her and dad’s wedding (3). She’d probably kill me for posting the swimsuit photo, but I love that she looks so relaxed there — the shore was her happy place (also where 9 was taken).

And of course, the love of doggies runs in the family.

#9 is how I remember her. ❤️ She didn’t look very different from this, even though in this photo she was probably about 58, when she passed away at age 80.

Family holidays at the beach are some of my most vivid childhood memories. This is my Mum at the beach, she was a dress girl too and was 29 in this picture, being a Mum to 3 daughters, I’m the youngest.

My Mum died 4 years ago on 3 May. May is a month when I particularly think about her and the fun we had together. She was a wonderful mother and as I reached adulthood became my good friend.

Love seeing pictures of other gorgeous Mums too. Such a fun and beautiful thread.

Love this! I definitely got my love of style and shopping from my mom. I remember when I was young especially, she wore mini skirts when none of the other moms did and always looked stylish. She was a young mom, only 21 when I was born, and dressed more conservatively when she got older but I always loved to shop with her.

I don't have a lot of pictures from when she was young, but I love this one of her and my dad right around when they got married. And I think the second one is fun - me, my mom and my MIL on my wedding day. My dress was also my mom's wedding dress and made by my grandmother. Notice my mom's trench coat - she would fit right in with YLF!

I don’t have a lot of photos of my mom here with me, they are still in my childhood home with my parents. Those that I have don’t really represent her stylish looks well, but I still want to share them with you.
#1 - working in the garden, soon after getting married in 1965
#2 - on a bench with some friends, she is on the right, can’t tell the year- late 60’s , early 70’s maybe
#3 - picknick with my father and a friend before they were married, she is on the left, she is very young here, probably still in high school, they are high school sweethearts.

Thanks so much for your lovely compliments about my Mum, Jonesy, Janet, Style Fan, Phoebe, Rachylou, you would have given her a huge boost of confidence.

Xtabay, my Mum's style also became a lot more practical with each child and her clothing budget mainly went on clothes for everyone but herself.

Firecracker, your Mum looks fab and I love the strong glasses shape worn at the time.

April, I can imagine your glee when looking at the paste jewels, a treasure trove for sure.

Oh Janet, your Mum had fabulous style and her dogs were just the perfect accessory. I would love to wear the skirt from pic 1 and the coat from pic 8, thank you for sharing.

Bijou, your Mum looks beautifully relaxed in that beach photo. I understand your reflection around this time, I view it as a way to remain connected.

Robin, just look at that smile in the first photo, her happiness leaps off the page, and yes the trench coat is definitely YLF approved.

Anchie, your Mum has such a quiet confidence in these pics, the first one leaning against the post really made me smile.

Here are a couple of photos of my mother from the 1970s. The first photo is from 1970 and the second is from 1974. She had a great, fun style that mirrored her personality. My mother loved fashion and was always impeccably groomed whether she was going to work or to the grocery store. Interestingly, I have a checked pantsuit and a similar jumpsuit like my mother is wearing in the photos. We both have a love for pattern and bold color. I miss her every day.

Love these I definitely got my love of fashion from my mom- though I was led a bit astray cause she's a Winter! We liked to go shop while dad was watching football!

We can share some colors- since I'm DA. Forest green, teal, burgundy, warm purples are good for both of us. But she rocks blues, especially cobalt, which is one of my worst. My trouble is when I pair those cooler colors with black, like she can, it's just overall too cool. But browns are often hard to find.

Interestingly, despite going grey, her best colors are still the jewel tones. Lighter cool colors just make her look sallow.
