OTK boots keep or donate?

Closet cleanout continues! On the chopping block today, burgundy over the knee boots from the times when those were worn over leggings for "long over lean" looks. They are still in good condition but they have a flappy bit at the top which means they cannot be used under skirts or pants, only OVER things. This really limits their usefulness.

I’ve thought about cutting off the flap but I don’t think the result would look nice. It also can’t be folded down, it’s too thick. I think I’m answering my own question here…..

What say you, group? I don't have a photo of the actual item but I'm attaching a similar thing.

I still have mine and have worn them with a midi dress. Would you wear them with tights in lieu of skinnies?

Celine are doing skinny jeans tucked into moto boots, so the boots into jeans look is likely coming back…. That said, this time around, I will be wearing flatter boots, so if it were me, I would donate.

Honestly Sal I don’t think I own a single mini skirt right now…. Hmm.
Kelly how do you control the flap under a skirt? I feel like it looks really odd moving around….

Donate! If you need/ want OTK boots you will find a style without the bothersome feature.

I can see you in tall or OTK boots but maybe lower heeled. And I don't know that I will wear a mini again although I do like mini dresses.

I'd be inclined to donate - don't you already have a similarly shaped flat pair in black (more of a 'wellies' look, with a straight fit in the leg) instead?

Or am I imagining things?

The flap would bug me too! Having tall boots to go over leggings is very practical for deep winter, so maybe look for a pair that's below the knee instead.

They look very devil wears prada to me. Skinny jeans and a cropped fitted blazer or oversized blazer would be awesome. Yes to leggings and I'm also partial to mini skirts with OTK boots. I do personally prefer OTK boots fitted with lower heels. I have several pairs of the SW 50/50 which are workhorses. But I can't wear heels. I think this is a super elegant look but you have to like it. I do like a relaxed fit top for over jeans, just easier to work with. But you need to like it, that's all that's important, if not....next....

I think it sounds like they’re too hard to style for your current preferences (I know this issue quite well!). The combination of the flappy top and the high heels reminds me a bit too much of Pretty Woman, but maybe that’s just me. These are so limited in their styling that I vote pass along. I bet you’d prefer a lower heeled version if you were to go for a new pair at some point.

Celine showed this very same boot - not quite OTK though - with slim/slinny jeans in their recent show. Worn with an oversized shearling jacket and silky blouse.

If you can handle the heel height, and they are comfy - keep.

If they are in any way uncomfortable - pass on.

I guess I should dig them out and try them on as a first step. It’s tempting to hear from Lisa and others that this look may be current again!

I do tend to forget how useful a thick leather boot can be in winter. These are definitely thick and warm. I live in a place without winters right now, but will be moving back to 4 seasons soon.

I have burgundy OTK boots as well, but lower heel and without the opening at the top (that must be to make them easier to sit in). I like these with shorter skirts and dresses, but sometimes they do tangle.

I would keep them for a future pirate costume, because I own a capsule of mix-and-match pirate gear. Yeah, I know, it’s weird. I blame it on The Goonies.

I think they are cool and iconic, and lend themselves to the kind of amazing looks you pulled together pre-pandemic for some fancy socializing. I wouldn’t know how to blend them into my style, but I’m selfishly nudging you to keep them so I can see what you come up with.
