Your mother is very fortunate to have raised such a loving daughter. I lost my father to lung cancer, then two years later I nursed my mother whilst she died from it. Both cases were from smoking. I quit straight after my mother died. I don't want my family to go through that for me. I agree with you about cigarettes. They are a drug to which people easily become addicted, then slowly die. They should be outlawed worldwide. Enjoy every minute you have with your mother.

Oh, I'm SO sorry to hear about your mom's illness. I'm sure she's very happy to have you staying with her right now. Sending all of my best wishes for her to continue to feel better!

You are a wonderful daughter to be taking time to stay with your mother as she recovers. Addicition to cigarettes must be a powerful thing. My MIL, who died too young as a result of smoking, was in the hospital demanding cigarettes while on oxygen.
May your mother gain back her health quickly.

So sorry to hear this, but glad you are having the time to be with her.

So sorry for your mother Krishnidoux, and I hope you have a peaceful Christmas. My family doesn't smoke so I have no place criticising it but I do agree. It's one of the "dominator drugs" that helps people endure and cooperate with industrialised society and thus there is no real motivation for the powers that be to make it illegal.

Sending healing vibes and love your and her way.

Kind, loving thoughts to you and your mother. How nice you can be there with her.

Wow! You are wonderful. This is outstanding support. Thank you so much for all your kind words and thoughts. It is much appreciated. I told my mom about the forum and that you sent your prayers and loving thoughts, and she was very touched.

She is actually doing better and better, now most of the constant wheezing is gone, her voice is back to normal (the tube they had to put to her lungs in ICU had damaged her vocal cords) and she can walk small distances, slowly, without a walker. She was very depressed about her voice and the walker because she is proud, I would be too. It suddenly made her feel so old. So to have her voice back is very uplifting. I am washing and handwashing all of her nicer clothes, that might have accumulated some dust, so that she can soon wear them again.

Earlier when she was still in hospital, my brother and I cleaned her house for dust. I was sorting through a pile of knitting supplies in the tv room when underneath I uncover... my green ankle boots... moment of Twilight Zone... What are my boots doing there, under her knits? And then I realize they are not mine, but hers...! She had bought the very same pair, in the very same color! (see pick below).

Then later when she came home, she gave me another pair from the same company, new, because she won't be able to wear heels at least for a little while.
- But, Mom, what about later, when you feel better? You might want to wear them?
- Oh, by the time I can walk in heels again they'll be last season's style!
Was her reply.

How cool is that? (photo 2)

Fruitful, your words stuck in my head. It helps reminding my mom not to be to hard on herself.

I want to respond to everyone of you but time is pressing me away from the computer. Please know that each and every of your words come right to my heart!

krishnidoux - I'm so glad your mom is back home, recovering, and is feeling good enough to think about new styles of boots It is SO sweet of you to be there taking care of her, and you won't regret the time and energy you're giving to her! Know that you are a blessing to her (and maybe she wanted to return a small part of that blessing to you in the form of the boots??)

My thoughts are with your family, Krish. Wishing you strength. <3
