OT: Where to stay in Berlin?

I'm going to Berlin early autumn and have never been there before. I thought I could get a cheaper hotel price by making an early reservation. Does any of you have a hotel or a district in Berlin to recommend?

How are you for staying in hostels? My friend went to Berlin in our grad year (Grade 12; over a decade ago - I'm old); and enjoyed the Hostels International hostel there

thank you fo rthe link Inge! I havn't been able to check anything yet, but I know I'll be visiting several museums and galleries.

lyn* - well, I feel that I'm done with hostels for a while. In my 20's I wouldn't mind, but now I want a neat hotel, nothing fancy, but a convenient place with my own bathroom and toilet. I want it to be close to cultural attractions and still have a quiet room, no crazy party feel etc

I don't have any hotel recommendations, but I would search for a hotel in either Mitte or Charlottenburg around the Kurfürstendamm. You'd be central and it's easiest to use public transport from there. If you have any questions about sight seeing or anything else, feel free to ask.

fyi...hostels have grown up! one of the most affordable and chicest digs in sydney is a hostel. nonshared rooms available, but shared baths. for me this is the only downside.

anyway...just a thought. enjoy berlin. i've stayed at the westin berlin and really enjoyed it. you should check out AAA or the hotel sites directly for discount rates.

We stayed on the Kurfurstendamm in Berlin. I think it was this place:

That was a fantastic area to stay in. We walked from the Tiergarten train station, walked to the Tiergarten, to Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, restaurants, shops. We biked to the 17. Juni Strasse, to the Brandenburger Tor to Alexander Platz, Checkpoint Charlie, and more - about 15 miles around the city in one day. You could take any city transportation to anywhere in the city. We rented bikes on the street. Very cool way to travel, nice flat landscape there.

Thanks Gabi! I checked, but the motels that I wanted were booked. The site was only in German and I can understand most of it, but not all

Motel one is also at booking com.so you can read in english! but try it more often at
"motel one" because there are suddenly rooms free!! I went to München last year and first there were no rooms free and a few days later they had 2 rooms free.
