OT What I wore today!

This is OT because it is gear. This is my swimming wetsuit (as mentioned in Tam's thread about running swimming combos) I wore it to do a long distance ocean swim of a couple of miles and am happy because I did took a couple of minutes off last years time and on top of a 5km (running) race yesterday where I also got a PB!

Not very figure flattering is it? Totally bust squashing and very snug.

Also, just as I was getting ready, I had a (daily) contact lense break in my eye and there is a bit still there. This is the third time this has happened. Has this happened to anyone else?

Are you talking a hard contact lense or a soft lense?

Thanks everyone.
It is a soft contact lense. I spoke to the optician the first time I broke one and he said not to worry unless I have an eye infection (he couldn't find it for me, btw).
About 6 months later it came out. The second time it came out in a week.

It is very painful at first, before I get the main fragment out, but the small fragment doesn't really hurt - I can just feel it sometimes.

Was a bit strange before the race having to squint all the time but once in the water it didn't matter

You can wear contacts when you're swimming? I always assumed that the contacts would wash away.

OK, I don't swim so sorry if this is a silly question. Doesn't some water get in the goggles?

I didn't really elaborate above. Actually it is quite hard to get the contacts out. I believe it is possible to wear them swimming with no goggles even but if there is a wave if could knock them out. A little water leaking into the goggles wouldn't be a problem (Last year in the same race one side of my goggles leaked constantly but the contact didn't come out)

Wow, congrats! Even though gear isn't "flattering", I find it very empowering because it represents my hard efforts. So you go!
On the contacts...I wear soft (toric) lenses, and don't think I could even tear them if I tried. Maybe you ought to try a new brand/type?
My doctor has forbidden me to wear contacts when I'm in water (could cause some rare, but dangerous eye disease??). I swim "blind", which is why I haven't attempted a tri yet.
Can you get prescription goggles? /dumbquestion

Congrats, Anne! I've worn contacts for years, and I have torn them while removing them a couple of times, but have never had a piece stay in my eye. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that would be! I wonder if your brand is particularly delicate or something?

And Sarah, I'm sure you can get prescription goggles.

Actually I don't usually wear them when I swim at the pool, but I needed to for the race. (and thanks)

Cindy, they are dailies and are very soft and delicate. I don't even wear them much since I got my YLF approved specs. But I have have months of supplies left, so wouldn't want to jettison them. I think I must be doing something wrong when I put them in.
