I know, I know, this can be a bit hokey. But right now as I wrangle three children to bed and it feels like shepherding a horde of cats, as I think of the year filled with the loss of two important family members, and as I stress about Thanksgiving preparations, my mind drifts randomly over things I'm thankful for.
So I was wondering, what are ten things you are thankful for right now?
Here's what comes to mind for me ~ and tomorrow I'm sure I'd be thankful for ten completely different things:
I'm thankful for my noisy and sometimes exasperating children because they are a joy anyway (especially when they're asleep!!)
I'm thankful for my Thanksgiving babies who will be seven on Thursday!
I'm thankful for the humongous triple layer chocolate birthday cake I made for their party last Saturday, and that I've been eating morning, noon and night since then. Yum.
I'm thankful I have a home, that I have a roof over my head and plenty of food to eat.
I'm thankful my husband and I can open our home up to others on Thanksgiving, and that we have friends to share the holiday with us this year.
I'm thankful that I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my home, so that I can eat leftover pie for breakfast for days to come.
I am thankful that since my twins' birthday falls on Thanksgiving this year, I have an excuse to add yet two more desserts to the menu: birthday cake and ice cream.
I'm thankful that I have a family to look after and to look after me.
I'm thankful for all the beautiful new clothes I've added to my closet this year, especially when there are others who lack basic clothing for warmth and decency.
I am thankful for the wonderful community and neighborhood we live in. This afternoon someone left an apple crumb pie on our doorstep with a lovely card offering sympathies and support to our family as we mourn those we have lost.
Did I mention I am thankful for all the delicious food that abounds this time of year?
