Latest report I've heard it's one shooter responsible for everything. Seattle is having a very bad year for gun violence.

I guess the crisis is over- apparently the shooter took his own life.

I kind of freaked out when I first heard about this because it was near the University where my daughter is a grad student. (she's fine). Call me a worrywart mom...

This is very upsetting. Our crime rate has gone up dramatically this year.
My kids' school wouldn't let the kids outside for recess and moved any classes regularly in portables into the main building to cut down on traffic outside the school.

This kind of caution is good, but not the way I want to live.

Horrible news today (and from the weekend too apparently?) and I was once again homesick for Olympia as I chatted via facebook with my cousins and friends up there. Tragic and senseless violence that seems worse (but of course it isn't) in such a typically quiet area.

It is a very somber, sad night here in Seattle. Apparently one mentally ill shooter is responsible for all of this tragic activity. God help us all...innocent citizens, going about their lives, gunned down in seconds. Don't have a cure, but pray that somehow our society can come to our senses and find solutions to this madness. So sad for the families who have lost loved ones today...including the family of the shooter who ended his own life as he saw the police closing in on him. Everyone loses in this scenario...

This happened more or less in my business' neighborhood. Soon as I heard we locked the doors and hid out. It's very sad people feel driven to such things. Well wishes to the families of the victims.

I'm so glad to hear our community Seattlites are safe. I know all too well how frightening it can be. I lived through the DC Sniper and I was at the Home Depot the day before one woman was killed there (so must have been when they were scoping it out). People were afraid to gas their vehicles. Utter insanity.

Yesterday was an awful day. The police helicopters were overhead all afternoon as the police did a door to door search. I've learned on days like this to listen to the police scanner on my computer when there's danger nearby. We live near a large heavily wooded park which attracts "fleeing felons". The police were working really hard to get a grip on the shootings & ultimately did. Our community is very sad.

I have been thinking about this more - gun play and senseless violence are constantly in the news in Nor Cal and particularly in some parts of my beloved hometown Oakland - and really, there are so many occasions of gunplay even in the most idyllic, anti-gun cultures (thinking Norway and also UK - sorry about your friend NPM) that I wonder if anyone should feel insulated from it. depressing.
