OT: Tips for shopping and/or having clothes made in China (Shanghai)?

My husband and I are heading to Shanghai next week for a week. Part of the trip will be business but I will also have time for shopping / tailoring (of course). Do you have any tips to share on shopping in Shanghai and having things made?

I have made a bit of a list of things I would like to get made. I think I have read somewhere that it is best to take along a picture of the style you want.

I'm thinking silk scarves will be on the shopping list also.

I have no tips for Shanghai, but I have heard that it rocks, so be adventurous and have a ball!

Having clothes made is always a gamble. I vote nay, unless your expectations are low.

I might not worry about wasting my time with tayloring then. I could always buy some material and bring it back to have it made up by my tried and true dress maker!

I say if you are of typical asian figure, it's easier to get things made (because everyone is used to making clothes for that one shape). Also; take their suggestions for fabric type and choice.

I have had no problems Also; if you have a friend who speaks mandarin, it makes life easier (and things cheaper)

Hmm, definatley not a typical asian figure :-p and no friend that speaks mandarin. I would love just to try it, so I might if I have time but I won't have high expectations!

Good luck! Everyone I worked with was very friendly; I had a suit tailored for me and I was very happy with it until the airport decided to destroy it (never check a tailored suit; lesson learned).

Oh well, another "excuse" to get a new one
