OT: Tell us something we don't already know

Una's thread got me thinking. There are so many things about me that I don't think you guys would know or possibly even guess. I'm sure the same is true for most of us. Let's get to know each other just a bit better.

I will go first:

I love dinosaurs. Interestingly, or perhaps pathetically, I didn't have a dinosaur obsession as a child. No, my dinosaur enthusiasm started in *college*. I had to visit the Museum of Natural History frequently for my drawing classes, and I got a bit obsessed. I still love dinos and get very excited to see any new discoveries in the dino world.

I luv martial arts themed movies...Kill Bill, Enter the Dragon, etc. Hee-hee! It started when I would watch Bruce Lee movies with my older brother. It was our sibling bonding time.

I am quite neurotic...oh, you already know that:)

I can obsess about the most seemingly insignificant things (see above neurosis)

I find it virtually impossible to lie .

I do accents. I'm a pretty good mimic and have been known to spontaneously break into random accents especially Irish and Northern English. Chances are if I hang round you long enough I will be able to mimic your accent pretty well

AJ, me too!! And I did martial arts myself pretty seriously for about 7-8 years starting when I was about 35. I got all the way up to where my next test would be for a black belt, but then I fell in love and got married and I never quite made it. It sure was fun, though.

Maya, an unexpected and interesting revelation. Dinosaurs are intriguing.

I am learning to ride a motorcycle. I'm not a good very good cook. I don't tolerate clutter well at all. I am finishing my fourth quilt. I am a grammar snob. People have described me as a type AA personality. My husband calls me Blondie. There are few things I enjoy more than walking on the beach and reading. My favorite TV shows are Cops, Detroit 187, and House Hunters. I am much too impatient. I drive too fast, walk too fast, and have a quick temper. I am addicted to caffeine and magazines. Someday I think I'd like to write a novel.

I played netball all through high school on the same team as my Mum and Aunty. (for the North Americans, netball is similar to basketball, but you can't bounce the ball and you can't go everywhere on the court and there is no backboard)

I have a sugar packet collection, mostly put together when I was 11 and I went on a round the world trip in the mid 80s. The best ones, with photographs were from the Canadian pacific hotels (which we never stayed at, but must have had a bite to eat at at Lake Louise)

Maya, I love this! I love dinosaurs too and was a dinosaur fanatic as a child. I saved my dino collection for my son, who fortunately inherited the dino-gene! When we at the Museum of Natural History, he was greeting the fossils like long-lost relatives.

Here's some stuff about me...

I would go out dancing every night if my lifestyle permitted.

I have always wanted to write fiction for a living.

I have a very rare weird phobia called "trypophobia" - a fear of repeating patterns, especially holes, in organic matter (honeycombs, lotus seed pods, sunflowers with the seeds out) *cringing* Seeing these IRL or images of them actually makes me sweat and get dizzy.

I hate talking on the phone.

I can do fingertip push-ups!

I'm an only child. I'm very quiet and mild mannered but extremely impulsive and stubborn. I met my fiance online. I am horrible at math and have a very hard time with numbers. I am extremely messy and disorganized. I am bilingual and learned both languages at the same time. One of my favorite hobbies is going out to eat! I love experimenting with different cuisines. I am obsessed with cute little dogs!

I have 5 boys and homeschool them. I had my blood supply replaced twice over in a trauma situation. I used to ride motorcycles... the 3- and 4-wheel variety. I'm a NCIS fan. And we own over 15 cars... quit counting a few years ago. LOL

I am a numbers and grammar geek. I actually used to count the letters, syllables and amount of words in each sentence as they were being spoken and try to keep them divisible by 3 - yeah, a little weird. I was the smart kid in school but way too busy partying to put it into any real use except for these types of silly things . . . sorry you asked, huh?

And I hate talking on the phone more than just about anything, but unfortunately my mom does not grasp this concept!

I was a rebellious adolescent. The teacher at my high school sent a warning home to my parents that said:
"Jean does not exhibit the maturity she should as a junior in high school. She spent nearly all of today's class laughing to herself"

I am also neurotic, cannot stand clutter and obsess and worry over tiny things.

I always loved spicy food. I ate anchovies and olives at age 3.

Hmmm... I love all things King Arthur. I'm not obsessive, but I tend to devour any Arthur book I see. I also love ghost stories and I like watching those haunted house shows on TV. However, I have panic attacks if I watch an "end of the world" type show.

OK - I am a sports fanatic. I would be content to watch television sports 24 hours a day - I can't get enough of any type of athletic event. I am your husbands' best sports buddy. But alas, my own husband is not that "IN" to sports and so I drive him crazy!

I am deathly afraid of rodents. (It makes me anxious just to type the word.)

I used to be a music teacher.

I get very cranky whenever the temperature drops below 70 degrees.

I love home-made ice-cream and make it often (the old-fashioned way - crank style!)

Before I hurt my neck and shoulder, I was a competitive runner.

I love to write poetry and short-stories and plan someday to write a novel.

I sleep with 6 pillows (and my husband!)

Marley, send your rodents to me. I love them and think they are adorable, especially little mousies. I once saved a moues from my kitty's clutches and used to play with my friend's pet rat in college. When I think about it, I was more interested in playing with his rat than seeing him sometimes. Have you fainted yet?

I get very cranky when the temperature goes ABOVE 70 degrees. Well, maybe 75.

And I can't stand sports or athletic events of any kind. There is nothing in this world I care less about than sports. If sports just fell off the face of the earth, I would not even notice. Well, yes I would. I would be a lot happier having not gone through the horrors of PE as a kid. And I have a huge soft spot for guys that hate sports as much as I do. High five, Marley's hubby

Jean, your story is hilarious. I love how you have it committed to memory! When I was in 8th grade, my physics teacher called my parents and said, "I think your daughter hates me." He was remarkably observant.

I am the oldest of three and I'm definitely in charge when we're together. I love dogs (but have never owned one), and am not that big on cats, though I adore ours (two elderly himalayans that were originally my boyfriend's grandma's). I was a competitive debater in high school and placed second in state my senior year. I am awful at learning foreign languages, unfortunately. I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 9, and my dad had to bribe me by promising to buy me a stunt kite (which was a win win for him because it meant he wouldn't have to let me borrow his kites, and we could go on bike rides together). I still don't really like riding my bike though. I played percussion from 6th grade through college, and played quads in the marching band.

ETA: I hate sports, and luckily so does my guy. Oh, and we don't own a tv, it's all computers all the time around here.

I'm completely terrified of birds- the whole feathers and flying thing and the horrible dinosaur feet freak me right out. I was afraid of dogs until I got my own little Yorkies

Like Kate, I'm the oldest of 3 and am definitely in charge My sisters and I sound identical on the phone- even our mother has trouble telling which of us it is.

When I was a little girl I used to catch my neighbor's cats when they hopped over our fence and dress them in doll clothes.

alaskagirl - the concept of trypophobia fascinates me. Do you happen to know if there's a phobia of the opposite? Bumps gross me out, like the clustered seeds in a pepper or the close up of the woman's goosebumps on the York peppermint pattie commercial. Ick.

NK, I'm sure that's a version of this phobia. Oh yeah, the seeds in peppers bother me too, and yesterday I was creeped out by the pasta I made for dinner - when I poured out the water, all the rigatoni were clumped together making a cluster of holes. UGH. Barnacles and coral also totally give me the willies.

Mice, on the other hand - I'm with Maya, I think they are adorable (though not as house pests). we had a couple of them as pets last summer, but they were really delicate and died quickly. Who knew, considering they run rampant in the crawl space of our cabin?

I'd better stop before you all think I'm nuts.

Like Tanya, I can't swim, and I love watching sports, especially tennis. Roger Federer is my favorite and I'm hoping to be able to see him play at least once before he retires.

I think it'd be sad for me have a boyfriend who didn't like sports, since I really enjoy discussing sports and my mainly female friend circle doesn't.

Alaskagirl: that's a truly unusual phobia. It's funny because my field of research involves periodic clusters of holes, though not ones that occur in nature. I guess you'd be allergic to it

My we are an interesting bunch of ladies! I'm loving reading about all these little things I would have had no idea about otherwise

*I cannot handle frogs at all - my kids have been known to make me run away and scream with a toy frog even

*I too am the "big sister" - I have 3 little brothers, a much younger half sister and 6 step-brothers and sisters and not one of us speaks to all of the others - our family is in constant state of fued! I'm the eldest of my biological family and until this year I was always the "organiser" and "boss" of the family, but I've just had it with them all and stopped.

*The art gallery is probably my favourite place in the world and I dream of being an artist.

*I too am neurotic and have a fair amount of OCD! I cannot handle certain spoons in my drawer to be used for tea or coffee - they are for solid things only, not liquids at all LOL

*I also hate the phone - give me email or text anyday.

*I love the great outdoors and love to sit in my garden, but I hate gardening and despise the thought of getting dirt on my hands... yet when I was a vet nurse, blood and stuff all over me didn't phase me at all.

Yep, add me to the neurotic gals too LOL

Not sure what I haven't mentioned before in previous threads of this nature, hm:
- I also hate talking on phones. Text me, email me, I'll reply quickly. Call me, not so much.
- At one time I had 8 body piercings, half of which were below the neck. Still have 4 of them.
- I try to be sporty but am unfortunately uncoordinated and have bad depth perception and slight vertigo. Good flexibility and balance though, and thus my interest in yoga and tai chi.
- I speak Mandarin.
- I hate ants. Hate, hate, hate.
- I almost died from postpartum hemorrhaging after my first daughter was born. Had to go back to the hospital cuz I was losing a ton of blood; the doctor wanted to send me back home but thank god the nurse convinced him I was not going to stop bleeding.
- I was in the ballroom dance club in college and competed casually in ballroom dance (wave to Tanya). Really want to get back into it!
- For several years, worked at a Renaissance faire for a friend who had a pewter booth.
- I don't eat grains, legumes, or dairy--at least 95% of the time
