OT: Sound of Music Reunion on Oprah

I'm not a big Oprah watcher (no Ultimate Amazing Animals and Why She Sued Her Husband is not really that interesting to me) but I nearly jumped out of my chair when I heard that she was going to be reuniting the entire cast of the Sound of Music on her show on 10/29 including Christopher Plummer who has notoriously shunned reunions in the past.

I love musicals and grew up watching the Sound of Music. We even did a production of it when I was in highschool. I'm pretty sure I know every word of every song. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that part of the thrill of going to Salzburg was being able to see some of the sights from the movie - unfortunately, my husband absolutely refused to go on the "Sound of Music Tour" being offered in the city!

Anyone else going to watch?? Hmmm, to keep this fashion related, I'll ask if anyone has made clothing from their drapery???

Ultimate Amazing Animals are ALWAYS of interest to me - but I don't watch the Oprah show.

The Sound of Music is one of my top three movies of all time. I know each song backwards and have conservatively watched the movie 100 times. I guess I will be tuning into the Oprah Show on the 29th! Thanks for the info, Shana.

FUN!!! I will rush right home after school tonight and set the DVR!! "The Sound of Music" has a special place in my heart because we put on the play when I was in high school and I got to play one of the little Von Trapps (Brigitta, the smart one).

Last year on my birthday I went to the "Sound of Music" singalong at the Hollywood Bowl (yes, it's what it sounds like -- they show the movie with subtitles of the song lyrics and all 18,000 audience members sing along) with some members of my high school drama crew, and it was such a blast you cannot. even. imagine.

I did thrift a white gauzy skirt this summer with an olive green damask-style print, specifically because it reminded me of the drapery clothing! I wore that skirt all summer!

BUT can they still sing? If I were in the US I would watch, Edelweiss still makes me cry and the Baroness strikes fear through my heart.

Did anyone watch Dancing With the Stars this week? Florence Henderson got to dance to Eidelweiss- which was really special to her since she had done the role of Maria on stage at one time (and she has the real Maria Von Trapp in her audience one night!). It was pretty neat.

Angie, yes, it's in my top three as well. A few years back, I actually decided to make it part of our xmas tradition to watch the movie. I want my boys to know all the words to Edelweiss too!

Mary, l would LOVE to go to a SOM sing-a-long! I was stage manager in my highschool production (as well as a minor nun) so I attended all the rehearsals which is why I know all the songs! I have seen it during special screenings at both the Senator in Baltimore as well as the Fox in Atlanta.

Cricket, what a cute story! I never thought their drape clothes were as bad as the Captain made it seem!

Julie, Julie Andrews does not sing all that much since her throat surgery some years ago so I don't think she'll be signing. I heard a rumor that CP will be singing Edelweiss but somehow I doubt it. They will, however, have the actual von Trapp family singers on the show who will be singing some of the tunes.

I grew up watching SOM......for years I associated it with Christmas and Easter. I dont know why it always seemed to come on those times of year faithfully. Now, I notice that it comes on a lot more frequently and just caught it midway thru about 2 weeks ago....

Shana, thanks for the info: I would never have known otherwise. I LOVE SOM! Fortunately for me, the kids got hooked on the movie a couple years ago, and we watched it over and over and over and . . . you get the idea. We still watch it a few times every year. Must find out what time Oprah is on in my area to record this.

Saw this movie when it first came out as a child...along with Mary Poppins at the Drive in....way back in the 60's

High five Shana! I haul out the Sound of Music a few weeks before Xmas as one of our traditions. Either that, or watching it on Boxing Day.

My favourite part is when the kids, soaked from their fall into the river, sing for their Dad (actually for the Baroness) for the first time. Maria and Heer Von Trap have just had a major argument - and suddenly the house is filled with peace. I cry every time I see that part.

Good heavens, I love this movie. It used to air every Christmas and Easter and it was always a tradition to watch it in our house growing up.

I've been meaning to add it to my DVD collection~

Oh, thank you Shana for the tip-off! I LOVE the SOM. R and J, I cry every time I hear Edelweiss too. I'll definitely be DVRing this episode of Oprah!

As for drapes, um... I don't even have drapes. And my sewing skills are limited to uneven hemming and maybe buttons.

Eee! EDIT- I just had an idea... can we plan a SOM watch party for YLFers with commentary on fashion following? (Er, or maybe I should get a life. Yikes.)

Yeah, Shanna! Thank you for posting this. This is something not to miss but I wasn't aware of it until your post. Sound of Music is my favorite movie! If I'm ever within a couple states of a Julie Andrews event (I know she's not singing anymore but I don't care), I'm going. I love her!
