I just got off the phone with dd's GI doctor. He finally got around to reading her test results (a upper GI and small bowel barium swallow study)- which he says were completely normal. She had started having pain again a couple of days ago, so I had given her a less intensive round of laxatives, but it hasn't worked (well, it did work, but not enough). He told me to be agressive and clean her system out every time she starts having pain again- even if it's every couple of weeks. He told me the alternative is admitting her to the hospital every time, and that's really not an option in my mind. He doesn't want to see her until February, and we're waiting for our insurance to ok the next test. He wants her taking laxatives twice a day. At least we know what is going on now (chronic backing up of her digestive system- causing acid reflux), even though we don't know why. I think it's odd that he hasn't mentioned diet at all. I'm going to try and increase her fiber and keep her away from sticky stuff (cheese and the like that tends to gum up your system), but there is contradictory info about that on the internet when I search.
It's just really frustrating!
