OT: Ring Order

Hi,

If you wear both an engagement ring and a wedding band, what order do you wear them in? I always thought you wore the engagement ring first then the wedding band, ie in the order you received them. I've noticed lately, most women wear the wedding band closest to the wrist instead. Is there a right and wrong order? And is there a reason?

Sorry Lisa, I cannot help you here - I do not have an engagement ring and do not wear my wedding ring at all. I would wear them the way which feels right for you but then I am not a traditional type at all

I think, traditionally, you're supposed to wear the wedding ring and then the engagement ring - the wedding ring being closest to your heart. I only have one ring, though, so that's not even close to what I do.

Not engaged or married (and don't really think there should be "rules" about this stuff, anyway), but most women I know wear wedding band closest to hand, then engagement ring.

Personally I can't imagine wearing two rings on the same finger, no matter how sparkly, so I plan to only have one!

I think it's wedding ring, then engagement ring. But often married women don't wear their engagement ring at all after marriage since you're, well, married (i.e. no longer engaged)!

I say stuff that, I will definitely be wearing my rock along with my wedding band thanks very much!

I think whatever makes you comfortable. But yeah if you're gonna go for both rings I'd suggest the traditional way.

Traditionally it's wedding ring, engagement ring, eternity ring but I don't think it really matters x

My set is kinda different...the solitare engagement ring fits right *inside*
the wedding ring band, which opens up sideways (like 2 circles) and the E R snuggles inside...when its closed the solitare is surrounded by a small curved line of diamonds on each side. It is a substantial weight, but very smooth and comfortable to wear....

Traditionally, you wear your engagement ring on your left hand until the day of the wedding. On that day you place the ER on your right hand so that your left hand is "free" to receive the wedding band. After the wedding you then place the ER over the wedding band. That is why the band ends up closer to the wrist. But many women just wear their band (especially if it has stones) on the left hand and leave the ER on their right hand. Some "sets" combine the rings. It is all a matter of choice.

I don't think it matters! Whatever floats your boat. I wear one ring only.

Yeah, traditionally it's wedding band first, then engagement. But I haven't had my rings sized down since I lost all the weight so I put my engagement ring first so that it's protected by the band (which I picked up at Target myself - long story).
My engagement ring means the world to me, and it scares me that I've come close to losing it so many times - like in the cherry bin at the grocery store, for example. I need to re-size it!
More and more lately, I wear my rings on my thumb.

Traditionally, the wedding band is to be "closest to your heart" so you would wear that first then your engagement ring. I only have one band that served both purposes, but remember this from waaaayyyy back in the day.....

I'm the same as most people who've answered; wedding ring first, with engagement ring after (when I wear it).

Ha, I never even knew there were traditions about the order. I wear my wedding band first and engagement ring second on the same finger, only because that is the way they are most comfortable. I even remember switching them around right after the wedding ceremony and before the reception, just for the comfort. I agree with Angie, wear them however you like the most!

Well I started first the way you described, in the order I received the rings because that made sense to me, but this seemed to unduly horrify my mother so I switched. I didn't know that it mattered.

Wow, thanks everyone for responding.

I did not realize there were "rules" on this and have been wearing it nontraditionally all this time (oops). I just happened to notice in a meeting the other day that I was the only one wearing them "different." I flipped the order today and I've noticed some eyes looking. Maybe because now my engagement ring is pushed farther up? Or maybe some are thinking "bout time she got it right." LOL!

Oh Lisa, if you liked it the other way around wear them that way. My wedding band is closest to my wrist only because I removed my engagement ring on the day of the weeding.

RoseandJoan- I'm going to give this new order a try and see how I like it. In the end, I doubt many people notice how I am wearing my rings anyway.
