I agree with BethW: Team Rice during the summer season and Team Potato during the fall and winter!

lol, Angie! One of my strongest memories of my childhood is begging raw potato slices (yum!) off my mom while she was cooking them for dinner....still eat 'em every chance I get! Rice is ok...once in a while!

Beth and Jonesy, you can switch Teams with the seasons

Polly, I appreciate your food- fence-philosophy!

Ahem, the Dutch make as good a cone of "friet met" as the Belgians. Although, Inge may disagree!

Biscuitsmom, you are joking. Really?

Baked potatoes with butter, sour cream and chives. I could eat that every day (but I don't).
BM- I remember eating raw potato slices too.

I eat brown rice all the time but if I had to be honest- I adore potatoes any way. Fried with vinegar. (I loathe mayo!!)
Team potatoes, although I eat more rice. Does that even make sense?

I ate raw potato slices, three.

Ok, the best of all possible worlds: Persian tadig, with potato crust

This was a really tough decision. I love potatoes in almost all incarnations, as I do rice. I love rice with butter, with soy sauce, fried or even just with a little sesame oil. But in the end I must go with potato. Mashers, in stews, baked, potato salad.... Mmm.

So close though!

I'm with Jean on the mayo loathing. Eww.

I like potatoes more on their own for the reasons Steph mentioned, but I just could not function without rice. I eat it at least three times a week. Iranians and Indians make the best rice in the world IMNSHO, and I happen to be both, so I get the best of both worlds.

This was the same reason I was on team neutrals instead of team colors...

Yes, I'm Asian so team rice all the way! My husband loves his fries with mayo - I guess it's a Euro thing b/c I find it kind of yucky (though I love mayo on other things)!

BethW -- I have never eaten anything from the cafeterias at either of my schools. Ever.

No doubt this is how I preserve my reverence for the tater tot.

Ha! I also avoid the cafeteria at all costs and snarf my Lean Cuisines hiding in my office.

As for mayo, I consider it and cottage cheese to be Foods of Terrible Evil. *shiver*

I like both but I'll be on team potato. I also love a little mayo on the side with my fries!

I ONLY eat potatoes with mayo!! We could make a meal of this Angie...my hubby makes the best homemade seasoned french Fry's for me to dip in Mayo....oh yummy!!!

Team potato

Taylor, if I end up crashing at your house during the worldwide YLF convention, remind me to bring my own ketchup :p

Taylor, feel free to bring hubby's fries to our tea party with my snack cupboard. I'll provide the mayo :). In fact, you can bring hubby too.

Okay, seeing as my favourite condiment was severely insulted - I'm going to brand melted cheese as mega evil. I LOVE cheese, but it must be in its natural room temperature state. How dare you melt it!

Oh Angie, I pity you for being unable to appreciate a gooey grilled cheese sammich (with real cheese of course, not yucky American cheese).

I'm on team melted cheese for sure. Down with mayo!

You know, I was just starting to feel ever so slightly guilty at picking on your favorite condiment, Angie.

But then you went after melted cheese. And now my heart is sad.

team rice! Potatoes are nice too, but rice is better.

Also, I take team melted cheese over team mayo any day of the week. YUM cheese!

Angie, speaking of vile: I think of Aalborg Aquavit which is a Danish potato schnapps. It is SO potent, you have to drink it ice cold or else! My hubbie and I sampled it when visiting friends in Aalborg, a lovely charming college town in Denmark. When in Rome, right? But vile is the only word I can think of to describe it. One sip was enough!

Why do that to a poor potato? Only the Danes could concoct something that, well, interesting.

Ha, Maya...My husband has plenty of ketchup and hot spicy mustard...you won't go without, and I won't force you to eat my Mayo..:) He is not a Mayo fan.
You all would love his fry's!!

I don't eat a ton of either, but team Rice. Between jambalaya, paella, risotto, and thai curries I'm not sure what I'd do without rice.

In terms of actual food that sustains me day to day, Team Rice, but in terms of joy in life, how could I give up fries and potato chips? They are high up there in the foods without which life would be significantly less worth living. My husband only eats fries with Mayo. I can't bring myself to try this and I am pretty sure my digestion is thanking me.

Raw potatoes? I did not even know they were edible.

I just read that melted cheese is evil and my heart missed a beat. This is so wrong. There is nothing like a grilled cheese with ketchup.

Potatoes, please.

Katja, YES!! Tadig with potato crust!! The food of the gods, for sure!!

I don't eat potatoes and rice.. well, only brown rice.. so I guess team rice

I'm team rice and team mayo (though not those two combined). I'm also team melted cheese sandwich. What can I say that's what happens when you have an asian food loving, part dutch along with lots of other things, American voting.

Oh potatoes please, any way I'm not fussy!

Ketchup ONLY for fries.
Mayo on sandwiches.
Grilled cheese and soup on a chilly winter day.

Potatoes all the way and (almost) any way! I've tried fried with mayo and wasn't fond of it. I do make mean roasted potatoes & steak fries though. I started experimenting to save some money & my waistline from fast food fries and mine are so much better!
