So, my niece's belated wedding reception was Saturday. I wore the outfit that you all helped me decide on, and we had a nice time. The bride and groom didn't make it, but that's a long story. There was everything from jeans and tees to cocktail dresses, so I felt like I was appropriately dressed. I'm so glad that I wore that shrug- we were outside on a balcony and it was none too warm.

This is the brief moment that she had her- you can see even here that the baby is bursting tears.
Thanks for all of the help putting this ensemble together- I felt very fab!

So, when you go to the trouble of dressing nice and others show up in jeans and tees does it kindof take some of the fun out of it for you? I know it does for me....

Good question,k Kim! And can you imagine how you'd feel if you were hosting an event as important as a wedding reception and people turned up in their movie-going atire?
Khris, I bet you left everyone else in the shade!

well, since the bride and groom didn't even show up I guess they weren't too bothered by the way people were dressed ;-0 but yes, I'd be disappointed if people didn't come to my party in their party clothes!

It was kind of an odd event. Besides my family, there was only one person that I knew. None of the father that raised her's side of the family was there (or her bio dad, but that's another long story). I felt bad for the couple of people who were in jeans- they looked out of place, even if they didn't feel it. My mom said that this reception was for the groom's father's side of the family, because they weren't able to go to the wedding (which was in Vegas about a year ago). I don't think that my niece actually wanted this- her mother in law seemed to be the one doing all of the planning. Apparently, my niece had not been able to go to the bathroom for the last week (she's pregnant again, which can cause those issues), and she waited until noon on the day of the reception to go to the Emergency Room. So, they never made it because by the time they got out of the ER everyone was leaving. She had an infection from being backed up so long. I'm not saying that she wasn't really sick- of course she was (and concerned about the baby), but I do think that if you have an important even that you really want to make it to that you take care of your health before hand. She had been having problems all week, and could have gone to the doctor's anytime.It was her passive aggressive way of ruining her MIL's shin dig. Not that I expected anything different from their family- this is all par for the course with them. The cake was good LOL

What a great family photo! Your kids are adorable -- I LOVE your son's hair color! My finance has red hair and if we ever have kids I *hope* they have bright red hair.

I'm glad the cake was yummy.

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering how it went. Too bad there weren't more people that you knew. I was anxious to hear about everyone's oohing and aahing over you, since they haven't seen your transformation in the last year.

I love the family picture! It's the first time I've seen your whole family. What a good looking group. You look fab!

Crazy about the bride and groom not being there. I tend to agree with you. If an events planned, go see the doctor sometime before. Regardless of how you feel about your MIL.

My son's hair color is actually darkening with age, and it makes me so sad! This is what my grandfather's hair did, too. By the time he has an adult his hair no longer had a hint of red in it.

Kim- family occasions always require liberal amounts of alcohol LOL

Chelle- Not only did she not make it to the party that the in laws paid for and planned, but she left them watching her baby the whole time, doing all of the decorations AND hostessing the whole thing. I'll be curious to see how that family dynamic evolves.

Khris- my dad's red hair did the same thing..by the time he was an adult he was brunette, but my husbands grandfather was red his whole life. . . I have 2 red heads and one seems to be darkening, but the other looks like he might keep it.

The family gathering sounds like one of my families gatherings LOL One of my cousins just flew to Hawaii to get married purely so his fiancee's family couldn't make it because they caused such a scene at the engagement party...
