OT: Nothing exciting fashion-wise ... but, new boy!

Dear YLF,

Busy as heck week - you think that everyone in the whole city has broken something and we are going to help them fix it! It's amazing some of the stuff they can do in the operation room, but man, my legs/arms/back are killing me. How ironic, eh?

This week I've been swamped with The Hospital and trying to get rid of the clutter in my home. A lot of it is sold and is waiting to be picked up by perspective owners; there was much success at the garage sale, and a bunch of Med 1, 2 and 3 textbooks ready to be sold!

There is a new boy.... potentially. I will probably have to stake this out and wait until the end of my rotation. He's not a doctor or a medical student; but is one of our support staff. My friends think I can do better, but I think he's pretty nice so far. We'll see once we work with him more

I'm hoping for a quiet weekend (on call) ... haha, yeah right.

PS: I've been SYC good. Picked up a pretty bracelet for $3 yesterday at the mall and a bunch of camis (underwear, right? lol) - I was trapped there because of a traffic accident which closed a portion of the road to my house last night! I thought I'd break SYC for sure!

Aww, young love. At this point I'm sure you're interested in friendship and not how well you can do, even though it is nice to have friends who watch out for you. When you tell them you're engaged then they can start fussing over if he's good enough.

Lyn- love your $3 buy. wait until the rotation is done to decide about the new boy. I was madly in love with a male ER nurse during my ER rotation but waited. and then nothing happened. well he got married- to another nurse.

Wow, I'm impressed...trapped in a mall and still stuck to SYC??? That's dedication!!! New boy sounds nice - and nice counts. My friends (and family too) thought I could do better when I started with my "new boy" - now we've been married 24 years!!! Showed them!

Go, Lyn! And avoid the "you can do better" trap at all costs! If he is nice, kind and supportive of your aspirations then it doesn't matter if he earns less than you ( which is what is being implied, I think). I sometimes joke with my sons that there is only room for one prima donna in a relationship, and then I tell my husband that the position is taken. LOL

Hey, congrats for the new romance. Who cares what others say about you two? It's important there's real passion between you and your new lover.
Also, trapped in a mall and not breaking a shopping ban, well that's an accomplishment. Go you!

And don't listen to your friends; they don't know what you need. After all, they are the ones who told you to dress more slovenly. Not to sound like a feel-good family comedy, but it is true that real friends will want you to be with someone who treats you well and makes you happy - not someone with a big paycheck.

I CAN.NOT agree more with the other ladies regarding the "boy". Unfortunately, we are a very status oriented society and that is often measured by a paycheck or position. Don't fall for it....fall for him ( IF HE IS GOOD TO YOU ).

I have a feeling that we should call a young man a man and not a boy. Do you?

I was just reading in an article that sometimes it actually works out better for the relationship if both parties are not in high-stress/status positions, anyway. How would it work out if you were both docs? Just something to ponder...

I agree with ignoring the "not good enough for you" advice. Only you can decide that. And personally I can't think of anything worse than being in a relationship with another doc. Being able to get away from work is a good thing!!!

Lyn you will know who's good enough for you:) A close friend through my hubby to be wasn't good enough (she told a mutual friend as much). We have been married 17 years, have a gorgeous 8 year old boy and share a wonderful life together. Trust your instincts and it doesn't hurt to hear your parents opinion as well... old fashioned I know but they are wise!
