Foxy is so cute!!!! Our dog is also a true houdini. He's a shelter dog; he escaped and was picked up by animal control so many times that his prior owner told the shelter to just keep him one time. I guess she got tired of paying the fines to pick him up. After we adopted him, he would get out 2 or 3 times a day. We quickly realized we needed to fix the problem!
One thing that worked for us was keeping a leash on him at all times. He dragged it behind him at home. He behaved better when "on the leash", and it gave us a much easier way to catch him (someone could usually grab the leash if he was running out the door). We used a super thick leash with some weight (and he's a fairly small dog). We did have to take him to some training (we tried a class first, but decided we aren't very good at training so we sent him away for a week). He doesn't need the leash anymore.
We also made a point, as a family, of knowing where the dog is before we open the door. If we tell him to stay or sit before we open the door he will.
Hope you don't mind if I share a pic of Zippy and his "killer dog" leash. Don't worry we don't normally "dress" him up; my daughter found this Santa outfit at Target for $2.50 and used her own money to buy it. He was a good sport and tolerated it for Christmas.
