I think I've mentioned here before that I'm an academic/scientist. My tenure review is happening this year, which means that at the end of this school year I either get tenure (and have a job for life) or don't get tenure (and get fired).
Today I found out the result of my department's vote on my tenure, and it was overwhelmingly positive! This is big news for me.
The tenure decision still has to be reviewed by other committees in the university - the whole process won't be done until May - but the department vote is the biggest hurdle. Given that my department wants to tenure me, it's very very unlikely that the decision will be reversed higher up.
