OT: My guest room project

I've been working on turning my son's room into a guest room/dressing room for almost a year now. I have been totally obsessed with http://www.houseofturquoise.com, my favorite decorating blog, and have been collecting inspiration photos for months. This week the drapes and the final pictures went up and I just can't help sharing the final result with you all! Looking good, MaryK! I love the dark green walls with the lighter turquoises. Fab contrast--very unexpected and dramatic. Like the little pops of red too. I didn't have time to go through the whole blog but really enjoyed flipping through your pics. I have a guest room project looming ahead of me too. May I ask what color you have on the walls? Love the frames in the entry too : )

Kelly, it's actually dark gray walls. It was a Behr paint -- maybe Poppy Seed or Pencil Point. I'll check when I get home.

The painter was really nervous the day he put it on the walls because he thought for sure I'd think it was too dark! But I love it!

It's very striking, Mary! Must be the turquoise playing trick on my eyes. When I look closely, I can see the grey. It's just lovely! I love dark walls--as long as there's enough light to prevent it from looking like the bat cave! You may find that your guests are never going to want to leave. I don't plan on doing that good of a job ; )

I love the gray walls good neutral to add pops of color. The chandelier is stunning and I adore the chair with turquoise. The room looks very calming and sophisticated. You are so good with color.

Gaylene, my mom rocked me in that rocking chair 50-plus years ago, and I rocked my Marine in it when he was little. Now it's waiting for grandbabies! LOL

OK, now I know our chairs are twins. Both my sons (38 and 35) were also rocked in the chair starting from the first night they were home from the hospital! That's why it hung out so long in the basement; I couldn't bear to give it away. And I, too, am waiting for grandbabies...

I can't believe I almost missed a DECORATING thread!!!

Love what you have done with the room. The deep grey backdrop provides a lovely stage for all of the delicious shades of teal and aqua. You have added great texture and the mirrored side table is fab.

I love decorating even more than fashion. Beautiful room.

I love these colours Mary - you did a spectacular job on this room! The dark grey looks amazing with the turquoise - so, so much better than brown/turquoise.

Can I borrow you to come and fix up my guest room? I have family coming next month and just a boring, and very basic guest room.

You are *really* good at this, but then I'm not surprised. Your outfits are fabulous too. I especially loved the tan skirt, coral/blue blouse, blue jacket and blue bag combo you posted most recently.

So now I'm thinking that the colour turquoise (clothing wise) can carry right on through fall and winter - wanna know why? Because of how you've paired it with a very dark grey. I kind of thought of turquoise as only a spring/summer colour, but seeing this fabulous room makeover you've done - I realize turquoise can work at *any* time.
