OT: Meyers-Briggs test

This has come up a few times on the forum so I decided to take a test to see what I am. I am apparently an INFP, the rarest of all types. I suppose it is accurate--I am a bit of a bleeding heart and have quite a vivid imagination, and I work in an art-related, expressive field. At any given time, I am a bit of a misfit and eccentric and I'm okay with that.

I am INFJ. On wikipedia there is a little box that says which ones are rare, and most N's are rare. But, honestly, where do they get those stats? I think they are pretty sketchy. Almost all my friends are NF's. So either I only like NF's, or those stats lie...or both!

But, I did find the typing, which I've done both online and in a psychiatrist's office, compelling. I was actually quite depressed at first because I test always as INTJ and I felt sort of proud of that type. I didn't want to be INFJ, but I now realize it is more closely my archtype. But, just like body type, everyone is truely different and these types need to be taken with a big grain of salt!

Hmmm....I'm INFJ.....I'm not sure how accurate it is because I come up different every time I take the tests. I'm absolutely always introverted and feeling (67% and 62% on this test) but I flip flop between judging and perceiving quite a lot and to a lesser extent between intuitive and sensing.

I'm an ENFP. We're not so rare. In North America, Extroverts are more common than Introverts and Sensors are more common than iNtuitives. And yeah, I'm very much an ENFP.

I am an INFJ. I've scored as an INFJ every time I've taken the Myers-Briggs test (in March 2006, February 2009, and again just now). The description of INFJs found here: http://typelogic.com/infj.html couldn't be more true. Except: "knack for fluency in language" - I am awful at foreign languages, but pretty good at English.

My boyfriend is an ENTJ. His description was rather accurate too and actually somewhat insightful for me. The first time I read his description I laughed out loud at "When challenged, the ENTJ may by reflex become argumentative." Oh so true...

According to the test, I am an ISFJ - a protector (like Mother Theresa...) The description states that this type is very loyal to friends and family, has a great sense of responsibility, values tradition and dislikes change.

I suppose this is accurate to some extent, although I am no Mother Theresa! I am not a leader at all... I am very introverted and shy and prefer to be with a one or two people rather than a large group. I'm not a huge fan of change (except in my wardrobe!) and I generally like things to stay the same. I would agree that I am very loyal and responsible, though. So I guess I do see some similarities. The career indicator is way off though -- none of the suggested careers even remotely interest me.

Maya, I'd put my head on a block that you are NOT an "F". A "T" through and through. INTP. In my not so humble opinion.

You need to take the long and involved test over the course of years to get a true reading. Over the last 8 years, and after involved testing, I still come out as a very strong ENFJ. I think it's pretty accurate.

I'd never taken the test and just took it to find that I'm an ISTJ. The description is eerily accurate down to the way that I met my husband. However, I've never thought of myself as Eeyore! Thanks for posting this, Maya. It was fun.

Well I too got INFJ, but years ago I did this test and was exactly halfway between extrovert and introvert and I think that is accurate. Often I didn't really know which alternative to pick!

LOL, I just took the test for fun and answered as honestly as I could. I got ENFP! But, I know I am INFJ, but only slightly J and slightly F.

I got strong N (88%), pretty strong F (62%), very weak P (22%) and very weak E (1%). I am def. NOT extroverted, but I do flip flop between P and J. I think it could have something to do with being slightly ADD or having a math disability or something.

I highly recommend googling your type as well as any alternate types (check your weak scores and look at the opposite trait in combination with your other, stronger, letters). There are tons of interesting descriptions on the web.

I am an INTJ. I have taken it several times over the years and I think it is pretty accurate. I took one other test in the past (DiSC) as part of a job interview and the results were similar to the INTJ.

I am coming up ISFJ like Marianna...I think this is mostly true. I am very shy and quite introverted. I also prefer small gatherings and I am usually extremely uncomfortable being the center of attention, or center of the room. I am much happier letting someone else be in the spotlight. I did totally agree with the silent backbone of the family...rang true for me, although maybe not THAT silent:)

According to the test, I am INTJ like you, elpgal. In the past I came out like both ISTJ and INTJ, but I never took the real test. I think the description is fairly accurate, except for the self-confidence part.
Angie, are those types supposed to be set in stone or can they change over the years? For example, if a person gets into an occupation that develops different traits. Just wondering.
Kate, my husband is ENTJ as well (he actually took a real test). I guess we see things in a very similar way, but there isn't much diversity of perspective in this household

Marianne, the results can change over time - especially if you're halfway between a trait. This happens fairly often, as you can see from some of the comments already.

I just took this little version of the test again and I score between 90 - 100% for every trait. I'm a very consistently strong ENFJ.

From what I can gather from the forum Taylor and Vani, I'd say that's spot on for you. But what you really need to do if you're serious about Myers Briggs is take the long involved test over time.

Oh I'm not so sure you should put your pretty little head on a block Angie! It's true I'm not a very mushy person when it comes to interpersonal relationships, but that changes a lot on a macro level. I could never be a supreme court justice for that reason. My sense of ethics is guided by a strong inderstanding of right and wrong. I get a gut feeling and use my logical side to build a case for my gut feeling. Hence being so politically oriented.

The actual description of the INFP is far more accurate to me than the INTP. I'm a strong introvert, but the rest were moderate. I think i make decisions based on a combination of thinking and feeling, using one to justify the other.

It's been years since I've done a Meyers-Brigg test. I came out ENFJ on this test but moderate in each category. That's consistent with what I scored when I took the long tests a few times in my 20s and 30s. I was borderline J/P which I think is accurate when I look at the descriptions. I still score "E" although I think that I've become more of an introvert as I've gotten older. It's interesting to think about this again. Thanks, Maya! aj

I took the quick test and came out ISFJ, however J was my only strong score so I imagine the proper test would garner a different result.

I guess I'm in the club with Taylor and Marianna (not a bad place to be). The write up did mention the most famous ISFJ are Mother Theresa, as Marianna pointed out and George W Bush. I have to admit I'm struggling to find the similarity between those two characters!

I just came out as an ENFJ as well, just like Vani and Angie!

I do think overall that this is a fairly good reflection of who I am. Unsurprisingly for me, I rated quite highly for intuitive and feelings side of the score, but was only slightly an extrovert (I can be quite an introverted soul from time to time) and slightly on the judgement score. Fascinating. I had forgotten about this test. Although I was slightly less impressed to find I seem to share the same personality type as a number of politicians!

I'm ESTJ, They call the supervisors, they say I should work in management or law (well, I was between these two and decided for studing management).

I haven't taken this test since college - so over 10 years. Then I came back as an INFP, which seemed pretty accurate at the time. This time I tested as an INFJ, with a very slight turn toward the J. Interesting...

I came out as an ESFJ (guardian provider). The general description was *very* accurate in my case.

I actually really want to take another type of test run by a company called Insights. A family member took it recently, and the highly detailed profile it generated was so accurate it blew everyone away including him. I even joked that he wrote it himself and was messing with us. It's since been of genuine professional help to him.

I'm an ESFJ like Michelle. I came out as "mildly" extroverted, which is about right. I love people but also need my alone time. As a first-born who wants to "mother" everyone, I think it was fairly accurate. I was also a teacher before having children, so I'm right in there with the occupations that suit my nature.
