OT - mascara - how many different colours do you have?

I have normally just had one at a time - usually a black or a black/brown.

This is a question particularly for those of you who 'do' make up more than I do. Do you have more than one and if so, what do you use them for - nighttime/daytime? Or 'eye' looks compared with 'lips' looks?

I have 3 tubes right now: very black, black and espresso (which is "brown" but looks more black bought b/c black was out of stock). I have 3 tubes b/c I was looking for different brands that I liked (the very black is a promo size I got when I bought lipstick). I have dark brown hair and eyes. I'm not really all that experimental with make-up anyway -- I go for a polished natural look (except for occasional red lipstick).
I am curious to how those who wear different colored mascaras pull off the different "eye looks" and whether it suits lighter complexions and eye colors better.

I have three. Black/brown, navy and clear. I find the navy makes me look more alive and brigther.

In years past I had an aubergine and with that shade of clothing my eyes looked stunning. More awake and expressive.

I only use black, but I have a natural-looking mascara (Covergirl Lashblast Length) and a more dramatic one (L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen).

I only have one color a brown/black. I don't wear a lot of make-up but, I do wear it everyday. I personally, am a top lashes only girl. What will vary, when it comes to color, is my eye liner. I will use an aubergine instead of my standard brown/black when I want something a little more fun.

I have a Ruby/Black combo for green eyes from CoverGirl Exact Eyelights. I love it. I am not a big makeup person and I feel it more naturally highlights my eyes than traditional black mascara did. I sometimes add eyeliner if I'm 'glamming up' for a night out. But that's maybe 6 times a whole year lol.
I may try the tube kind of mascara this year. I am intrigued!

I'm not a makeup girl, so I only ever use one mascara at a time, and it's always black, because I am always able to make do with the free samples I get when buying skin care items from Clinique or Lancome. I do think that black is not a great mascara color for everyone--on some people it looks harsh or unnatural.

I am lucky because I naturally have long, thick lashes, so I don't need to seek out mascaras that do anything special (volumizing, lengthening, etc.). But if anyone wants a volumizing mascara, I highly recommend Lancome's Hypnose Drama. It was the free sample I just opened two days ago, and it makes my eyelashes look ridiculously thick (so ridiculous that, for the first time ever, I might have to open a second mascara at the same time and use the Lancome only for night). If anyone has thin lashes, I think it would do an incredible job.

I use black. I've bought brown by mistake and it just doesn't look right on me, but I have very dark lashes to start with. I also stick with waterproof because everything else migrates or flakes off during the day and waterproof seems to keep my lashes curled better.

Black, Midnight Black and Navy. Almost always use waterproof Lancome. Put on a layer of volumizing and then a layer of lengthening. UNbelieveable results!

I wear mascara ALWAYS (yes even gardening) I have black and black/brown but many different types. I'm still searching for the perfect one, I have issues with smudging as I have deep set squinty eyes. I like Bobbi Brown No Smudge for everyday, for waterproof I use Lancome Hypnose (but it's not as good as their old Aquacils IMO) and recently I've been trying the Blink tube style. I like the no smudging, and it's easy to remove, but not enough volume for me, it's more of a weekend mascara (gardening maybe).

I used to wear it a lot in high school, and then went on a kayaking trip where we got stuck in a thunderstorm and my mascara ran all over my face! Luckily I was with my dad and brother, who thought it was kinda absurd that I was wearing mascara kayaking, but still love me anyway, so it wasn't too horribly embarrassing. So I learned my lesson and switched over to waterproof mascara in dark brown and used that all the time in high school, and then less and less once I got to college and grad school.

Now that I've switched to entirely organic, non-toxic, green, vegan, cruelty-free makeup (what a mouthful) I haven't bothered buying mascara. I rarely wore it before, and it would be hard to find something that met my standards.

I usually only have one on the go at a time. It is either black or deep navy. The deep blue works well on people with dark brown eyes as the whites have a tendency to be a touch more yellow on dark eyed people and the blue makes them appear whiter. At least that is what I read somewhere.

A friend did a mascara quest a few months ago and tried at least half a dozen of the most recommended mascaras to find the "best" one. I tried a L'Oreal one that was $28 instead of my usual $8 mascara. It was nice but not really nicer. The lady who does my facials said mascara is the one item she goes low end on since it doesn't last for long anyway and there isn't too much difference between high and low end products so I will probably go back to the pink tube with the rubbery brush.

It's helped me to decide to go for a single mascara - I'm going to go for a blinc black/brown colour, which is my natural colour. I've had a trial pot of blinc mascara, and now that I've tried a tube mascara like that I doubt I'll go back. It takes a bit of getting used to to remove but it really does stay put and although I'm on team RATE I'll go for anything easy that makes me seem more polished!

Really interested by those of you who have success using different colours - I'm impressed!

Hmm, I have bags and bags of make-up and used to sell MK make-up and only ever had brown/black and black mascara. I am loving the No.7 brown/black right now.

Always one colour only -- blackest black -- because I rarely wear eyeliner and I really like the contrast of black lashes against pale skin and nearly blond eyebrows. (Without mascara, my lashes are nearly blond too, so applying it is very satisfying. Voila! Instant oomph!) All the books say DON"T DO IT, WEAR BROWN if you've got my colouring, but I swear, it looks good. My eyes are a really pale clear gray-green, with a dark ring around the iris, so the dark lashes accentuate that. Plus I only wear it on the top lashes.

I do have two different kinds of black, though. One is a 24-hour daytime wear one, because I find many others tend to flake off and irritate my eyes. The other is MAC 'opulash', which I wear for going out. It makes my lashes look twice as thick.

BUT.
Have you ever had your lashes died? If you like me have very pale lashes, it is a life changing experience. Then you don't need all those mascara anymore (except for a special event).

Hey, I do that! Once in a while, when I get around to it. It IS handy, especially in the summer when you're in the pool a lot. But it doesn't make your lashes any thicker.
