OT: major shipping price fail

I saw a skirt at Ann Taylor store but they didn't have my size. No problem, they had it online, plus I had 30% coupon(I never ordered from them before). All was well until i started placing my order online
skirt price-$58-30% coupon=$40.60. And then, you add shipping, $20. Price=$60.60.

Really?! No, thanks, I will just have to pass on ordering from them in the future.I don't know about you all, ladies but I am not willing to pay $20 for shipping on a skirt. This really bugs me because I know for a fact that they can use other shipping options and NOT charge $20(although I shouldn't be complaining too much-Coach charges $40 to ship anything to HI).
thats why I always stick to Nordies-free shipping

Sheesh, that's painful. The shipping charge is ridiculous. I find that AT is one of the worst offenders in terms of its online sale prices being significantly higher than those in the store as well.

Although... did you ask if they could order it to the store for you? A lot of stores will place the order for you and you can go pick it up from the store without having to pay shipping charges. No idea if AT will do that though.

That does seem exhorbitant, Victoria! What a shame, but you did the right thing to pass. My Nordies parcel was sent expedited shipping to France, and didn't cost much more than that!! Hard to figure out!

Diana: I did ask if store can order it for me and they said no, unless I have Ann Taylor credit card. And to me, that's another fail

Oh, I HATE it when they make you get the credit card for things like that! I refuse to have a million store credit cards cluttering up my finances.

Yep. AT charges an ADDITIONAL $25 to ship to Alaska overnight (no other options, even if I'm okay with regular postage). So I've cut myself off with them.

I also just avoided ordering from Fluevog because shipping was $32.

Alaskagirl: what bugs me is that there is NO other cheaper options that they would offer and I know that because of that, lot of local folks will not buy from them. Seem like a not very smart business practice to me

Exactly. I've written to them about it, especially since we don't even have a store option here and they lose a lot of business that way. SO annoying!

I ordered online from AT once since they indicated a number of items were not available in Petite at my local B'n'M stores. I had to return most of my order so the top I kept ended up being close to full price. Never again. Nordies is the store that gets my business.

If you spend $125 or more, you get free shipping. I usually order one full priced item that I want to try out anyway in addition to the sale items. This gets me over the $125 limit. Then I return the full priced item to the store.

I have no qualms about gaming the system.

sylvie: I am afraid that if you live in HI, you still get charged the same shipping. No free shipping for us
