I was off work this past week for vacation and it was one of the WORST weeks in a long time! (other than receiving some of my NAS goodies!)
It started on the Saturday (Aug 4th) when my BFF phoned at 7:00 a.m. from her Dad's place (he lives 8 houses from me) with the horrific news that she had arrived to help him get ready for his day only to find him passed away in bed. She was hysterical (understandably so) and needed me to come over. I literally ran down the street in my pi's to get there and together we called 911 and handled all the horrible details of that type of situation.
Sunday was DS's 17th birthday and that went well but later that night he began to get sick.
Monday was a statutory holiday here and when we got up, it was clear that my son's asthma had flared up due to the vicious cold he had contracted. Plus I had the funeral for my BFF's Dad that afternoon. Hubby took son to the Emergency Department while I went to the funeral. DS was confirmed to have strep throat and is on antibiotics, as well as both his puffers for the asthma flare up.
Tuesday, hubby gets sick with strep and Wednesday, I come down with it. And then Thursday evening, MIL gets ill. Now she's only got one and a half lungs due to lung cancer years ago where they had to remove half of her left lung. When she gets sick, it's scary. By Saturday night her breathing was quite laboured and so I took her to the Emergency Department where we stayed for 11 hours. The chest x-ray was clear but she had some wheezing so she is now on two different puffers and the same antibiotic my son is on. She's already feeling much better, thank goodness.
In the past two nights, I have slept a total of 6.5 hours. I'm tired and trying to fight off the infection myself but relieved that everyone is ok. I'm looking forward to going to work tomorrow and having something other than death and illness to think about.
There are times when you just want to wipe a few days off the calendar...
